Trump's Cabinet -- Serious Speculation

Three GS people in the cabinet? What’s to worry about. Just think if he'd made a speech to them?

Another Goldman Sachs executive, Gary Cohn rumoured to be joining the cabinet - glad to see GS's influence being reduced

...and the Exxon CEO being considered for SoS

From Reuters:
n 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Tillerson his nation's Order of Friendship.

But U.S. sanctions against Russia for its incursion into Crimea cost Exxon Mobil dearly, forcing it to scrap some projects and costing it at least $1 billion in losses. Tillerson has been a vocal critic of the sanctions.

Trump has spoken of wanting warmer relations with Moscow, which has sparked concerns in Congress that he could lift or loosen some of the sanctions on Russia.

For the now historically lobotomized Republican Party, changing international borders by force, the core number one issue all the post-WWII structures and treaties were designed to prevent and/or punish, is now just a menu option for authoritarians and/or proper white people in general. How nice.

Yes, taking money from an organisation for providing a service means that you're in their pocket whereas having three past executives in your inner circle shows admirable independence

Turns out you have not in fact "drained the swamp", merely elected a madman as head gator.

I started it as a joke in the other thread, but now I think it may be a possibility. He'll choose Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State. After all, he's certainly not worried about pissing off Republicans.

What better way to keep her close by and rub her face in it daily? He's just vindictive enough to do that.

Seeing as how the polls failed so miserably this election season, this poll is wrong, too.

The polls where done by PEW research. One of the most reliable polling organizations.

Poll: Majority of Americans unhappy with Trump's transition
Seeing as how the polls failed so miserably this election season, this poll is wrong, too.
The polls for the last election really weren't that far wrong...

In the last few days before the vote, Clinton's lead was around 3%. When all the votes were counted, Clinton won the popular vote by 2%. A 1% difference. So everything seems to be within the margin of error.

The referenced poll says that ~41% approve of Trump's transition efforts, and only 40% approve of his cabinet pics. By comparison, Bush Jr. had 58% approval for his cabinet pics, and Obama had over 70%. That's a much bigger gap than between the polling number for Hillary and the popular vote.

It is such a dumb argument, but one that Conservatives love to make. They don't understand that the laws were made because there was a problem and that without those laws businesses would fall right back into those bad behaviors.

Trump's new EPA head will give us new examples in the coming years, unfortunately.

At least we can bring back the tradition of all sitting by and watching the river burn. It is so romantic because you get double duty for it, counting as both sitting by a river and sitting by a fire.

Console yourselves with this poll at your peril.
Not sure why you think its so unbelievable that Trump's efforts so far only have him at a ~40% approval rating.

First of all, most people voted against him, and people who disliked him likewise aren't gong to be swayed by what they feel are cabinet picks that re-enforce their dislike. (Its not like Trump has gone out and picked some noted environmentalist to head the EPA, or a labor activist for the Treasury. Clinton supporters were worried about anti-science, big-business influence and Trump has played right into that.)

And of the ~46% of people who voted for Trump, many of them voted for him because he promised to "drain the swamp" and stand up for the little guy; you have to figure at least a few of them were going to be disappointed in his appointment of various people to his cabinet (such as a former Goldman Sachs executive). So 5-6% of the people turning on Trump isn't that surprising.

So now we have a Secretary of State whose sole purpose will be to lift sanctions on Russia so that Putin and he can profit on a massive scale, while destroying the environment in the process.

How many times will this Secretary of State actually do anything other than something that affects the bottom line of Trump or Putin or himself?

Anyone see "Designated Survivor"?

Any chance of that being a documentary?

Trump picks Exxon chief Rex Tillerson for secretary of state

President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed the chief executive of Exxon Mobil, Rex Tillerson, as his choice for US secretary of state.

In a statement, Mr Trump praised Mr Tillerson, 64, as among the "most accomplished business leaders and international dealmakers" in the world.

Mr Tillerson is said to have a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, alarming both Democrats and some Republicans.

"Rex Tillerson's career is the embodiment of the American dream," Mr Trump said.

"His tenacity, broad experience and deep understanding of geopolitics make him an excellent choice for secretary of state."

He has warned of the "catastrophic" impact of unchecked climate change, although his company has been accused of deliberately misleading the public about the role of fossil fuels in global warming.

He has forged multi-billion-dollar deals with Russia's state oil company, Rosneft, spoken out against international sanctions imposed on Moscow and in 2013 was awarded an Order of Friendship by the Kremlin.

As rumours of his nomination gathered pace in recent days, one of Mr Trump's rivals for the Republican nomination, Marco Rubio, said being "'a friend of Vladimir is not an attribute I am hoping for from" the next secretary of state.

Another Republican Senator John McCain expressed concern over Mr Tillerson's links to Mr Putin but promised he would get a "fair hearing" in the Senate.
