Trump Claims Millions of Illegal Votes Cast

I agree with you 99%. I don't think the recounts are a waste of time, they may uncover fraud but I think it is more important that it is likely to uncover poor practices in the election process. Hopefully, then, those processes can be improved.

This.

Trump's making **** up again.

You're ignoring the Kris Kobach and Jeff Sessions in the room. This is laying groundwork to attack minority, specifically African American, voting rights. They need to stop this "fraud" that left him with the legal right to govern but not the democratic consent of the majority.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. I'm sure you're right.

I really hate it when people post links with no commentary.

What am I supposed to do? Go off to youtube to see......what? No, I'm not going there.

I followed the link and got a "This video does not exist" message.....

Easy solution. Why don't you just have voters present two valid pieces of ID to be able to vote? That should be able to curb fraud greatly.

Solution to which problem? That solution will not curb fraud greatly, because there is no significant level of fraud to curb!

For what it's worth, I have no problem with voter ID laws. I had to present an ID to vote. I don't know what would have happened if I didn't have a driver's license. I don't know what the real law is in Michigan. I just know that before they handed me a ballot they asked for ID. Only one form of ID I might add, why the heck would we need two?

But that's not the point. The point is that there is no reason to believe there is any significant level of fraud in the United States. Trump knows that, or ought to know that. So we are left with coming up with some explanation for his ridiculous claim. As I said in the OP, I can't decide which explanation I would like to be true. Would I like to think that he is lying? Or delusional? Or that he frequently spouts nonsense that he doesn't really think about and should just be ignored?

Yes.

Perhaps "waste of time" is too strong of a statement. I don't think they are necessary. However, they are going to be conducted in accordance with the laws of their states. Since they are being conducted, it presents an opportunity to examine the practices of those states and be doubly sure that the process works.

By all accounts, the amount of voter fraud in the US is ludicrously low. Trump would have us believe that it's instead in the ballpark of 2%. That's insanely high!

The man's literally insane. He's attempting to simultaneously claim the election was fair (because he won it) and fradulent (because he didn't win by as much as he'd like) so the results are simultaneously valid (because he's not conceding a defeat) and invalid (because he claims there were "millions" of improper votes). I know toddlers who make more sense, and they scream the house down if you serve them their blueberries on the Miss Piggy plate instead of the Peppa Pig plate.

Feel free to prove that illegal immigrants vote, and what party the tend to vote for. I'd like evidence of people actually doing it in significant numbers.

:dl:

Don't you know it's all about the feels with those people?

We don't need evidence! Just listen to the pumpkin furher!

I think a better use of the funds people are giving the Green Party to pocket would be to hire a plane to fly around Trump Tower everyday of his administration with a banner showing the popular vote results. He's so insecure it's debilitating.

This certainly has the whiff of plausibility about it although I also suspect that Trump simply cannot believe that he attracted fewer votes than Hillary and so perhaps he's being completely serious about this.

I think we've sunk to a recent new low when the President elect can make baseless accusations like this - and not even cause a furore in the US media :(
IMO this is a good guess for the reason. You don't think this will cause a furor. I saw it go by on the CNN ticker more than once this morning. I think it said "Trump lies about millions of votes..."

Has he ever claimed the election was fair? I think he claims he won in spite of it being rigged.
He can claim he won and still believe there were many illegal votes cast against him

More importantly Peppa Pig is the appropriate service platter for blueberries.

Then you must make such ID free and easy to obtain. And not pull a north carolina and specifically disallow the forms of ID blacks are most likely to have.

So we need to significantly increase funding to the DMV to make this work.

And now Trump and Kellyanne are calling the Democrats and Hilary specifically (even though I don't believe she's actually commented?) 'cry babies' for not accepting the result when they didn't ask for the recount, the Greens did, and all the Democrats have said is 'We don't believe it will change the election, but if there is going to be a recount we want to exercise our right to be involved to ensure it's done properly.' WTF is wrong with that? they are specifically saying they don't expect it to affect the result.

Meanwhile, Trump claims millions of illegal votes (and run his campaign on the basis that the system was rigged) but says there's no point in a recount or any sort of investigation. The man is a complete tool.

I know someone who was not allowed to vote in michigan because she has not yet gotten an michigan drivers license. Having a young child with Cystic Fibrosis means money is very tight and she couldn't afford to replace her florida drivers licience with a michigan one. So no voting for her.

So it worked in getting at least one person I know disenfranchised. But in large part it is working as intended, no one wants the poor to vote.
