Brexit: Now What? Part II

Well there is a shortage of medical opiates...

What?

Opiates are among the cheapest drugs out there. Knowing how much they cost on the continent, the entire British healthcare shouldn't need more than 1 million Euro or so worth of opiates yearly - and possibly not even half as much.
Note that all surgery is based on opiates. Putting you out for surgery literarily costs a few cents in opiates (the main cost is in keeping you out but alive), they're literately cheaper than the gauze you need.

Producing them is easy, and hence low profit. However the legal restrictions around them mean period problems with supply.
For example morphine sulphate was FDA listed as being "In Shortage" from last December until last month. Back in 2007-9 this was a major topic during the invasion/occupation of Afghanistan when organisations like MSF and ICOS were urging a programme of managing opium production for medicinal use.

Yeah okay, but I think that the supply of something this vital and this cheap should never be an issue.

Absolutely. I'd apply that to the whole South Coronados Island WHO Essential Medicines list.
However politics and profits say otherwise.

News on the plans of the Cabinet!

The government has no overall Brexit plan and a negotiating strategy may not be agreed by the cabinet for six months, a leaked memo has suggested.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-37983948

Or rather, lack thereof.

Another thing that the 350 million pounds a week needs to cover:

It estimates an additional 30,000 extra civil servants could be required to meet the workload.

Do Scottish and Northern Irish parliaments have any ongoing lawsuits? They could reasonably get a court ruling that they must agree to Brexit as well, since it impacts several areas of devolved powers - agriculture, forestry, fisheries, education, training, health and social services to name a few.

And another issue, $80 billion in lost investments. Ignoring experts is rarely a good thing.

No doubt all those figures come from experts and therefore in Brexit-world can be safely ignored

This is playing out the way that I'd feared. It's proving very difficult to "square the circle" of Brexit but those that promoted Brexit will shoulder none of the blame - instead it will be passed onto the poor ******* who have to try and make something of the mess.

One thing Theresa May did right is to put the Brexitards in charge of Brexit.
It'll still be a disaster, but at least their careers will end that way.

I saw that this morning; the UK government is now frantically denying any status for the memo.

It's damage control, pure and simple. If they had any meaningful plans they would be presenting them to the Parliament, and not fight a lawsuit against giving the Parliament the power to take power for the Parliament from the EU.

The memo just told us what we already knew, Theresas' plans for Brexit are a mixture of improvisation, confusion and outright panic.

Here's the update:

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-37983948

The document also says big businesses could soon "point a gun at the government's head" to secure what they need to maintain jobs and investment.

I think the term "omnishambles" is appropriate.

The article says the "came from an external accountancy firm and had "no authority"".

It is probably a document drafted by one of the Big Four accounting firms trying to sell their stuff to the UK government. One needs to take it content carefully as these firms try first to sew panic before selling their “solutions” at huge price, as has already been shown during the Y2K fear-mongering.

No doubt the Brexit is a huge selling opportunity for consultants of all kinds and that there will be more documents like this one…

Yeah, but as I said, it's entirely in line with everything we see from Theresa and her band of clowns. Do you see any evidence of a plan maybe? I sure don't, and everything they do stinks of ad-hoc improvisation and incompetence.

The only "transparent" plan they seem to have (or at least a few here think they may have) is to wait for german and french election and hope finger crossed that anti-EU party wins.

By the way , this is not exactly about brexit, but certainly shows that no gift is to be expected by UK from the US.

The 200-day plan is built around five main principles, plus an extra plank on manufacturing jobs. First is renegotiating or withdrawing from NAFTA, second is stopping the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, third is stopping "unfair imports," fourth is ending "unfair trade practices," and fifth is pursuing bilateral trade deals. The final focus, to "retain and return manufacturing jobs," focuses on lowering the business tax rate and eliminating regulations on businesses and restrictions on domestic energy.

I forsee a global 4 years economical war.

In other words, the memo is entirely accurate.

Deloitte. And it was, according to sources, written in conjunction with Civil Servants. It's also quite accurate.

Everyone is waiting for next week's CBI speech.

I'm interested to note this
The final focus, to "retain and return manufacturing jobs," focuses on lowering the business tax rate and eliminating regulations on businesses and restrictions on domestic energy.
I wonder if I'm reading it correctly? Does it mean?
Tax burden to be shifted more on to the backs of wage earners
Employment laws to be loosened
Environmental laws to be loosened.

Globalization put aside (question: to which extend ?) it will be the continuation of the economic policies put in place since the Reagan years and that have gone on uninterrupted since then.

Those would hoped that the Brexit and Trump election would change anything in that respect will meet big surprises, althought they shouldn't.

You got it right. But this was to be expected...

A substantial part of Trumps and Brexit voters will get no reward for their decision, on the contrary.

Indeed, although as a Brit I think of it as the Thatcher-Reagan years, or the Chicago School Discontinuity.

If anything it appears to be a return to pure Thatcher-Reaganomics after the "socialist" dilutions by Blair and Obama. Pump it up and it'll trickle back down in even greater quantity, honest.

A substantial part of Trumps and Brexit voters will get no reward for their decision, on the contrary.
They'll get their symbolic rewards - sovereignty, control of borders, Greatness, "Christian Values" at the heart of "National Identity".

The Anglo-Saxon world is not handling the end of its ascendancy well.

Sorry for that. I should not have hidden Thatcher's share in the achievements of this Policy...

BTW, in my previous message I meant "uninterrupted" but have written "interrupted"...
