President Trump

I am coming to the view that the veneer that civilization provides to hide the cave in us is coming apart. We are back to our old selves, in which case sucking up to gain advantage is the only criterion, not if the big boss is an ass, which he inevitably is.

In this election, we have Trump as the supposed Good Hunter (but his prowess is an invention). We have Gingrich as Medicine Man, spouting spooky nonsense, and Giuliani as the aging Cave Boss who has a hard on for his up and coming pet, the Hunter. People want to eat, so they sucked up. Messages are irrelevant. Smack-downs and gruff dismissals await the irksome and uncooperative. And while women are barely tolerated, everyone else who are not of the same cave is scheduled for death at worst and ignored irrelevance at best.

This is mankind when things are not always on the up and up, and what build-ups to major wars feel like. Grab a spear, or hide like a lone wolf.

We'll always be cavemen at heart.

I don't really know who Omarosa is, but I take it she's someone who is famous because she was a contestant on Trump's reality TV show?

I don't doubt that Trump will try to settle scores with those he feels have slighted him.
Yeah. She also had a position with the campaign (which in itself is full stop lol) as African American outreach or something like that.

Looks like only 2 or 3 out of 40,000.

The historical record is sketchy, but a lot of people were seriously hurt and at least a few died. But that wasn't really my point. It's that it was dangerous as hell and moronic and people wanted a front row seat. Hell, I'd of loved to see it. My point is that people do things even when they KNOW it is stoopid.

We will see. What happens if you're the one doing the freaking though? Sure as hell hope you ain't middle class, cause no matter who you support the Dons going to make sure he comes up trumps. Reap what you have sown.

Actually this last eight years has been terrible.

Three small towns in rural America. Each has a population of 10,000. The combined population is 30,000. How many job openings are locally available to them? 1,000,000.

Why would anyone think that that is actually going on in rural America? Because a guy on the Internet named "logger" said so.

You're correct by making your point so narrow.

But, that's not true. I'm a liberal and I care very much about the people in small towns like Cheyenne.

I'll give you an example of something I don't like though. I live in the Seattle area. King County. The most populous county by far in the State of Washington. Overall, only about 40 percent of our tax revenue is used for services in this county. Whereas we have rural counties in the State where three times as much money than tax revenue is spent on services there. Yet inevitably it's people from these rural counties are constantly complaining about the Socialist liberals in Seattle. Never mind that they have been suckling on our tit forever.

People in Iowa, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi etc.the reddest states by far get more revenues than New York, California, Washington the blue states. I don't even mind that. But I've had it with the damn tail wagging the dog. Enough is enough.
You're counting tax deductions. Counting actual money spent, rural counties are a drop in the bucket compared to cities.

No, it is revenue vs expenses. Compared to the revenue they generate they eat up a lot more money than they contribute to state or federal coffers.

The Republicans strategy was well known. They meant to make Hillary toxic for the last few years knowing she would be the party's nominee. They did a great job too.
At the same time the main Republican hopefuls were making each other toxic. Nobody did that to Trump. To the likes of you and me Trump did that for himself, but not everybody saw it that way. All too obviously.

People liked the racism they heard him spout, and in the general election they were not the kind of people to hold racism and sexism against someone, when you can outlaw gay marriage and end abortion.

It's often said that campaign promises are one thing, but when one wins office the reality sets in. I for one and going to remain optimistic, until proved otherwise, that the realities of governing are going to temper Trumps policies somewhat and that he'll wind up being a better president at least than George W Bush. (not a particularly high bar to clear)

I'm not expecting him to turn into something he's not.
Trump's tax policy favours the rich and their families, so that promise will surely be kept. Scrapping the Affordable Care Act and the Paris Climate accord likewise.

I think the real test of a President is in their reaction to events rather than their deliberate actions. I don't have much confidence in Trump in that regard.

Much of what he said was so free-form they could read what they liked into it.

That is why you get the situation where all of his supporters seem to think there are large parts of his policy agenda that he will never even try to accomplish. You don't usually get your supports claiming that of course he isn't going to do X even though it is a cornerstone of his campaign while the campaign is still going on.

No, not even close. Most rural counties cannot pay for basic services without subsidies. Road maintenance is a perfect example. The asphalt for paved roads to homes spread out is outrageously expensive. So is tying those homes to electricity and communication services. Emergency services also cost a lot more per person. There are no economies of scale that you get in urban areas. Property values also are a tiny fraction and incomes are less.

My brother has a 3,000 square foot home on a 3 acre lot 20 miles from the nearest town. Me, I live in a 1000 square foot condo in Seattle. My condo is appraised at 3 times the value as his house. I pay many thousands a year more in property taxes than he does.

More people per capita in rural areas rely on food stamps and government assistance.

I have seen the run down every year of state taxes collected vs state revenue distribution per county in the State of Washington and EVERY YEAR the three most populous counties pay much more in tax revenues than they receive in services and every year the most rural counties receive more services in dollars than they pay in tax revenue.

Given the impact of social media on elections and, ahem, voter knowledge, is it time to make adjustments to our systems of democracy? I have no idea what that would entail, by the way.
