Here's what kind of irritates me. Why was Bernie Sanders "the alternative"? I can think of dozens of Democrats I would much rather vote for. What Hillary had was her insider status, and a feeling among the party elite that it was "her turn". She was the organization candidate. That's the candidate that has no significant popular following, but gets the nod because they've managed to rack up the support of some sort of political machine. Bernie was the alternative because he was the only one sufficiently independent to not fear standing up to the organization candidate.
In my adult lifetime, she joins two other organization candidates, Walter Mondale and Bob Dole. All ok people in one way or another. All mainstream party line candidates. Two lost by landslides. One lost an election that was hers to win.
