Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

Another thought.

I get articles from CNN and elsewhere commenting on how badly Clinton is outspending Trump, with special emphasis on states that could be close, such as Florida.

Trump is allegedly a multi-billionaire.

15 or 20 million dollars or more of his own money spent in swing states might actually make a difference in the outcome of this election, yet he holds back.

Why?

Possibilities:

A) He's not as rich as he purports, and might have trouble putting his hands on even those trivial amounts of cash, relative to his stated net worth.

B) Neither he nor his staff is smart enough to spend money where it might actually do some good.

C) He's resigned to losing, and sees that as "good money after bad".

D) He never intended to win and is doing everything he can behind the scenes not to.

I'm leaning towards "D", though of course the options are not mutually exclusive.

Your thoughts?

I think it is virtually impossible that D is the most accurate answer. The one thing Trump hates more than anything else is being called a loser. There is no way that this ego-maniac would take one for the team if it meant that he would wear the title of loser from now until his death. He doesn't understand the concept of taking one for the team because he doesn't understand teamwork.

All evidence points to B. One day-1, Trump dismissed all the data analysts, election advisors, and statisticians. He said those people weren't needed because he wasn't a data-person. Virtually every week, Trump would unintentionally illustrate this defining trait of his. From claiming that he had a chance in California to spending time in states that were solidly blue or red, Trump has never thought the election required anything except his speaking at rallies. He completely believed that people hearing his voice and his ideas would lead to far more than 50% of the electorate falling in love with him.

That's why he thought making a pivot was stupid. That's why he never understood why he should tweek his message to bring in specific key demographics. That's why almost every decision was seen as a strategic or tactical error by everyone who knew anything about elections. That's why he was completely baffled by the idea that his rallies were SRO and he was losing in the polls.

He has absolutely no idea how to win an election and he has absolutely no idea how to take advice from experienced and proven experts. That's why he isn't spending money.

You left off E: he is simply too cheap to spend money that way. This is a guy who is prepared to stiff sub-contractors on a few tens of thousands of dollars. Why would a guy that avaricious spend millions of his own dollars?

Tofufighter said it more succinctly than I did.

Because the evidence has been clear, there is no evidence of widespread election fraud. At most a couple cases of people voting using deceased person's name have been uncovered.

.

You left out the other half of my post.

If the Republicans have been claiming wide-spread voter fraud for decades, why would they look at Trump and tell him to stop talking about wide-spread voter fraud? Also, why do you think evidence is relevant to a decision to isolate Trump or to otherwise correct his unsubstaiated claims?

E) He's so far down the rabbit hole that he thinks he's winning by a landslide, so he doesn't need to spend any more money. (Thanks to Dave Rogers)

F) He doesn't think political advertising does much good, and he relishes the idea of beating Hillary on a shoestring budget. (Thanks to sunmaster14)

G) He's surrounded himself with sycophants and no one is telling him the truth.

Even if his advisors told him that he was very likely going to lose, would be actually spend a bunch of his money trying to turn it around? I doubt it.

Nice video, and good point.

I like Fareed. He's so presentable. Almost presidential. ;)

But he has a funny name, so is obviously a plant from the Mooslim Brotherhood.

Regarding Trump funding his campaign, I suspect he's "land-poor". He has most of his wealth tied up in illiquid real estate and not all that much free cash.

I can't help but thinking that Trump's sex assault comments might have been survivable if he had approached it like almost any other politician especially given that wikileaks seems to have launched an all out attack on Hillary Clinton by dribbling out damaging emails.

For instance, the events starting with the statement would have been as follows for any sane and competent politician to control damage.

  1. News outlets air damaging video of the candidate making comments
  2. Politician apologizes using the locker room talk excuse and declares himself reformed and born again (add fundamentalist blather)
  3. 2 woman come out that he assaulted him, deny claim and provide an alibi that is difficult prove
  4. Rinse and repeat claim that he is born again and a changed man
  5. More women claim he assaulted him
  6. Rinse and repeat denial, alibi and changed man status

Because of Trump's incompetence and arrogance, he has kept the news cycle alive by attacking the women and claiming that at least one wasn't "pretty" enough for his advances. This has nothing to do with a liberal press and all to do with his narcissistic personality disorder and possibly borderline personality.

I say, it's not because he's not rich, it's because he has no liquid assets. His wealth is all in property. He might own billions of dollars of real estate, but that's not cash flow. In order to turn that into cash, he either has to sell or mortgage.

Remember, he admits that his net worth is paper value, and he can change it at will depending what value he wants to assign to it. It's not cash.

I'm reminded of Steve Martin's famous book, "How I Turned a Million in Real Estate into $25 in Cash"

I remember that being brought up in several contexts when he bragged early on about not needing outside financing. Unless the sale of Trump Tower and several other properties were in the "ink has dried" phase of a sale when he STARTED his campaign, there was NO way he could liquidate enough assets to finance a presidential campaign out of pocket.

The fact that he wasn't selling properties left and right or borrowing heavily using them as collateral was my first clue that his presidential run wasn't about actually winning the office, at least not when he started.

That would be my guess also.

I think that even if he could have come up with say a billion dollars to fund his race, he wouldn't have done it. He is much too greedy.

What is your reasoning?
The Republicans have been claiming for over a decade that voter fraud is so common that measures must be put in place to reduce it. Why would Trump's claims of election rigging be over-the-top in some way?
I've read some pretty strong condemnation of Trump's accusations, calling them an attack on US Democracy itself. I suppose we'll see how much that really matters to them.

Headless chickens come to mind ...
