Derail-ish post follows....
So he lived in a fantasy world of conflated importance as early as '92.

"It's so sad because I've known Mike more or less from the beginning," said Trump. "He started off having his first fights at my place and he's had his biggest fights at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. He was so incredible and the last few years he's just not been the same — number one he's not been the same fighter, he's not been the same man, he's not been the same anything."
"The truth is he's been very loyal to me, he has most of his fights at my places," added Trump. "He does best at my places in terms of his best fights and he's been great and I just hate to see what's happened to him. It's a travesty, it's a travesty."
It is true that SOME of Tyson's early fights were at Trump's joint. John Alderson, Donnie Long, Mike Jameson, Jose Ribalta. Are those household names because of the yugeness of those bouts? The Ribalta fight was a fan's delight and the only one where Tyson was the marquee name on the program. At that point he was a few months from his first championship belt and was definitely a hot ticket.
Perhaps that's what Trump remembers as "his best fights"? The other three were cannon fodder for Tyson's early career undefeated record, and no one's ever heard of them other than they have their names in the books for losing to well known fighters.
"... his first fights at my place..." No. Two "early" fights where he was on the undercard and when even Trump didn't know his name. That was when the Trump Plaza had regular fight nights so many boxers show up there a couple of times a year in their records.
"... has most of his fights at my place..." Just a stupid Trump statement. At the time he made it, Tyson had fought four fights at Trump's place. That's four out of forty-two! He hadn't fought at Trump Plaza since 1986. None of his title bouts, no big name non-title bouts, none. Jose Ribalta was the biggest name he fought at a Trump facility.
Again, sorry for the derail, but this is just totally symptomatic of Trump's worldview. He probably actually believed most of that. After all, it was all the sort of embellishment he compulsively adds to every anecdote. He can't have learned that Putin said something, he has to have experienced it first hand. He can't have read about or seen pictures of people jumping from the Twin Towers, he had to have impossibly witnessed it. Ditto being in Jersey City on 9/11 (which I cannot verify) and seeing the thousands of celebrating Mooslims.
It's the m.o. of a pathological liar. My mother was one. Interesting stories become first hand accounts.
