Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

To be fair, I wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with today's John McCain either. Not only is he too old for that **** but he's obviously a shadow of what he was even 20 years ago, let alone 40+. Of course, I'm not a presidential candidate who has a serious veteran problem, and who shouldn't even be using the word foxhole unless he's speaking in admiration of a soldier occupying one.

Yes, the civil war is over. There are lingering regional differences, as one might expect in a large and geographically (and historically) diverse nation.

More than 20 percent of Republican primary voters in Alabama and 25 percent in Mississippi believe that the Proclamation Emancipation was a mistake.

First, citation?

Second, how confident are we that the respondents understood the question? (I notice you reversed the ordinary order of the title, but I'll guess that wasn't intentional.)

Fractured metaphor aside, Huckabee seems like a really nice man.
Yeah. A really nice man who would happily turn back the clock on freedom by 50 years or more. He's a religious zealot and should never be trusted in a position of authority.

He's not running for anything now so it's safe to like him again.

Google "poll emancipation proclamation" You'll find it and a lot more. You'll wish you hadn't.

The answer turns out to be more complex and interesting than the sound bite:

http://www.snopes.com/trump-supporters-pro-slavery/

WHAT'S TRUE: A 'New York Times' article reported exit poll data revealed one in five Trump supporters opposed the Emancipation Proclamation; February 2016 poll data indicated 38 percent "of Trump voters say they wish the South had won the Civil War" in specific Southern polling results; 2014 polling done before Trump's campaign took off demonstrated surprisingly similar responses.
WHAT'S FALSE: The "Emancipation Proclamation" poll findings differed meaningfully from similar results gathered before Trump's campaign began; respondents were asked specifically about slavery; the data was widely available before 25 February 2016; Trump alone had supporters who scored in the double digits on that metric.
They used the term "executive order" in the question, which is likely to set off an emotional response.

Trump's numbers weren't exactly off the charts compared to other candidates, and were on par with a similar poll taken 2 years earlier.

I'd lend him my lawnmower. Trump? No.

He comes off as an incredibly nice guy. I also remember him taking a stand for a wrongfully convicted man a few years back. That made me feel a lot better about hIm. I've seen him on Bill Maher a few times and he was gracious and a very good sport. That said, he's always been a whore who will jump if it puts money in his pocket.

Derail-ish post follows....

So he lived in a fantasy world of conflated importance as early as '92.

...

"It's so sad because I've known Mike more or less from the beginning," said Trump. "He started off having his first fights at my place and he's had his biggest fights at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. He was so incredible and the last few years he's just not been the same — number one he's not been the same fighter, he's not been the same man, he's not been the same anything."

"The truth is he's been very loyal to me, he has most of his fights at my places," added Trump. "He does best at my places in terms of his best fights and he's been great and I just hate to see what's happened to him. It's a travesty, it's a travesty."

It is true that SOME of Tyson's early fights were at Trump's joint. John Alderson, Donnie Long, Mike Jameson, Jose Ribalta. Are those household names because of the yugeness of those bouts? The Ribalta fight was a fan's delight and the only one where Tyson was the marquee name on the program. At that point he was a few months from his first championship belt and was definitely a hot ticket.

Perhaps that's what Trump remembers as "his best fights"? The other three were cannon fodder for Tyson's early career undefeated record, and no one's ever heard of them other than they have their names in the books for losing to well known fighters.

"... his first fights at my place..." No. Two "early" fights where he was on the undercard and when even Trump didn't know his name. That was when the Trump Plaza had regular fight nights so many boxers show up there a couple of times a year in their records.

"... has most of his fights at my place..." Just a stupid Trump statement. At the time he made it, Tyson had fought four fights at Trump's place. That's four out of forty-two! He hadn't fought at Trump Plaza since 1986. None of his title bouts, no big name non-title bouts, none. Jose Ribalta was the biggest name he fought at a Trump facility.

Again, sorry for the derail, but this is just totally symptomatic of Trump's worldview. He probably actually believed most of that. After all, it was all the sort of embellishment he compulsively adds to every anecdote. He can't have learned that Putin said something, he has to have experienced it first hand. He can't have read about or seen pictures of people jumping from the Twin Towers, he had to have impossibly witnessed it. Ditto being in Jersey City on 9/11 (which I cannot verify) and seeing the thousands of celebrating Mooslims.

It's the m.o. of a pathological liar. My mother was one. Interesting stories become first hand accounts.

The sun will still rise, the next season of Game of Thrones is still gonna come out, government death squads aren't going to round up the loser's supporters in the night, no one's gonna move to Canada, no one's guns or abortions are gonna get taken away and we will all keep chugging along just fine and we'll do this dance again in 4 years.

Lots of people are saying that Hillary plans on taking all their swords away.
