David Letterman Unloads on the Subject of Trump

Excerpted* in the NYT.

But if you see somebody who’s not behaving like any other human you’ve known, that means something. They need an appointment with a psychiatrist. They need a diagnosis and they need a prescription.

Jeez, New Yorkers are lining up to get a shot at him. First Bobby DeNiro wants to punch him in the face, now Letterman flat out calls him nuts. This was not a joke interview. *I'm not sure where they excerpted it from. Or maybe they're not saying it's excerpted but that they edited most of it away?

Clinton is a serial seducer but he doesn't do it by backing women against a wall and forcing his hand up their skirts. He's a charmer, not a thug. There's no equivalence.

Huh? There are plenty of credible allegations that Clinton has done precisely what Trump only bragged about doing. And while he was a Governor and while he was a President. Even in the White House itself. And Democrats went to the mattresses to defend him. The double standard is quite striking, although hardly surprising.

It's the hand Republicans have been dealt though. They need to find the dirt on their candidates (all of it, even the little stuff) far earlier in the cycle, in the future. There was never any question that Trump had said things like that. The only uncertainty was whether there was video tape of it and whether it could be held in reserve by his opponents until October.

It almost sounds like you're done defending him.

...
If only someone had investigated all that stuff, and had unlimited tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to do that, and had some kind of ...Starr power.

If only.

That is a little like the Cosby defense, all these accusers but so little evidence it is true.

Yes, Bill Clinton is also guilty of sexually deviant behavior .

I'll be sure to vote for someone else.

Depends on who you ask.

Getting a blow job isn't really considered all that deviant by many people, although it depends on who's doing it to some of them.

Then again, until the SCOTUS shot 'em down there were laws against it in many states.

In NC it was a felony good for five years. Under the umbrella of their sodomy laws, which very nearly outlawed anything but the missionary position between two parties of opposite genders.

The gender of the parties involved was not relevant when it came to violations though, so it was equal opportunity as far as that goes. Getting a BJ from your wife was still a felony.

Of course they tended to be a bit selective about who was charged. Very few (none :p) NC state legislators turned themselves in when invited to. (Yeah, that really happened.)

Step aside Scottie Nell Hughes, Rudy Giuliani wants the title of worst surrogate. The spin is, "Yes he was bragging about sexual assault but maybe he didn't go actually through with it."

Except that at least one woman has gone on record as describing Trump doing exactly what he said he did.

There's plenty of evidence that WJC had extramarital affairs and lied about it. He was even impeached for lying about it. He doesn't even deny that anymore.

Just saying... most of the criticism is hypocritical to the outright irony.

Looks like rethuglicans do not know difference between consensual sex and sexual assault. How surprising.

And then they accuse others of double standards and hypocrisy? Obvious projection is obvious.

(taking aside from fact that Bill Clinton isn't running for president, basic fact that also seems to be elusive to [SNIP] conservatives)

No, it has zero effect on my opinion. I still want him to win for the same reasons I have always given. I had no illusions about his personality. I just don't think it's relevant to his performance in office. I doubt that a man in his 70s has the vigor or desire to carry on as Bill Clinton did, and it's not clear it matters much anyway.

That being said, I do recognize that this is disastrous for his campaign, and that his probability of winning has plummeted to the point where it might be better for Republicans if he dropped out (which probably won't happen) rather than continued.

Of course, he still has some chance of winning. Wouldn't it be the greatest humiliation ever for Hillary if Trump rebounded from this and ended up winning?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this. In response to Trump's newest issue, his defenders are saying, "well, look what Bill Clinton did" as if he's the one running for president.
