Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

It would not surprise me to see him physically assault Hillary

Honestly, I would be very surprised. Trump clearly has issues, and my opinion of the man is "piece of ****", but he's never given me the impression that he's openly violent. He talks about his desire to commit violence, he encourages it in his supporters, but as far as actually committing violence...? That seems to be something he's at least smart enough to keep private.

Same. They seem to play up the 'vulgar' issue, as if it were the only thing wrong with what he said. Saying 'pussy' is to them, a bigger issue than him openly bragging about multiple sexual assaults.

It's the part they've chosen to fixate on to avoid dealing with the part about actual sexual assault.

SNL is on. Alec Baldwin is reprising his role as Trump, being interviewed by CNN. He'd like to app-la-gize to everyone. "This was 11 years ago, back when I was a young, childish 59 year old man."
CNN cuts to Hillary's HQ to find a party going on. "Do you think he should drop out?" "No,no, no. Give him a shot."

It's mind boggling, although if they had not already seen what a stupid bastard Trump is, there isn't much hope.

It's true. They don't get the problem, really.

And if it were some one off incident, it also wouldn't be a problem.

However, 11 US Senators of the Republican Party get it. Conservative columnists like George Will, who correctly hated him long before this, get it. Conoleeza Rice and Carly Fiorrina get it.

No, his ardent supporters don't get it. If they did, they wouldn't be ardent supporters. This is really nothing new. It just confirmed what so many people were already saying about Trump, but it did so in such a way that it couldn't be denied or wished away. It laid bare the negative personality traits that those of us who can't stand The Donald have been talking about since he started running for President, and it doesn't have anything to do with promiscuity, or infidelity, or even vulgarity, but they don't understand what it's really all about.

I can't wait to listen to talk radio Monday.

Sounds great can't wait to watch it.

I was surprised at how quickly the rats jumped the sinking ship. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised. Regardless of how bad a nominee is, the party officials usually stand by them at least in public.

I'm seeking opinions. Which do you think hurt him more, the videotape, or the apology?

Sure, the tape was pretty appalling, but I think it could have been dealt with. I don't think it had to be a fatal blow. It might have pushed some of the undecided into the Hillary camp, but I don't think it needed to be a meldown like it turned into today. It might have even been enough to shut him out of a win, because the election was close and he was a bit behind anyway. As it is, it's basically a death knell. When so many prominent members of your own party are publicly calling for you to quit 30 days before the election, you're toast.

I think what really made it unsalvageable was the apology. When caught in a major embarrassing situation, he lashed out, said it didn't matter, and attacked his opponent's husband. That showed, to people who had somehow missed it before, a serious character flaw.

But that's what happened when you let Trump be Trump. What we saw yesterday was Trump, and a whole bunch of people said that we just couldn't have that person in the White House.

Any guesses at what might phase them?

Nothing. To summarize, there have been some disingenuous profiles. We were all supposed to be concerned about, "what it means," and "their legitimate anger," and all that BS. We didn't want to see the reality. The reality is that most of Donald's primary voters are people who are angry at life, angry at minorities and angry at anyone with an education. They don't care about trade or immigration policy. Those were shorthand for, "I hate my life." There was never a way to compromise with them, because they have no preferences other than, "**** you! My life sucks, so should yours."

I'm actually coming around to that opinion. Before I thought it was just more politics, but supporting someone who openly brags about sexual assault is beyond the pale. It's scummy in and of itself.

Ruminate on this, if not for that tape, Republican leaders were prepared to put a white nationalist in the Oval Office just so they could cut taxes.

Oh they would would still be happy to do it even with the tape, but they know he's going to lose so they want to avoid going down with the ship.

I agree. But this is also the result of the toxic right wing radio that capitalized on their discontent and whipped it up and blamed everything on minorities, foreigners and Democrats. I have no problem addressing some of those issues but demagoguery never really helps.

What could she say or do that would satisfy you completely?
That his comments were unforgivable and she would not vote for him, or at least, refuse to support him. I'm guessing she's probably considering it, considering that he has admitted philandering while they had been married less than a year and that she was pregnant at the time.
