UKIP leader standing down after just 18 days

Are you out to prove Farage right?

---------------------------------
Farage: “The SNP are openly racist. The anti-English hostility and the kind of language that is used about and towards English people is totally extraordinary.”

Mr Farage pointed to his treatment on a campaigning visit to Edinburgh last year when he was locked into a pub by the police for his own protection before being rescued after being surrounded by SNP supporters.

Since when was ukip a synonym for English???

Telling that you think it somehow is though.

At a distance (in the USA) I have formed an admittedly stereotypic impression of UKIP as a bit like the Nazi Brownshirts- a brawling, rough, nasty, racist, group that obtains much of its support through xenophobia and the goal of "making Britain British again." The news that a meeting of the leaders of UKIP resulted in punches and serious physical injury among themselves obviously tends to confirm that stereotype. Is anyone who knows more willing to educate me and counter that stereotype? Or is it fairly accurate?

I didnt know any brownshirts personally but ukip are just a bunch of deluded old men down the pub mouthing off about immigrants and Europe. I'd bet their average member is sixty and drives a Jag.

they're just ridiculous relics.

No doubt they inspire some proper nasty racists though.

Yeah, The UKIP is generally portrayed as the return of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts.

I don't know about UKIP; I seem to recall some chap in Munich sustained injuries during a political meeting a few years ago, but it didn't seem to hold him back.

That's spot on for the BNP or EDL. I think it might be an exaggeration regarding UKIP (not that there probably isn't some overlap).

You mean, like the SNP?

The UKIP has been accused...IMHO with some justiciation..of being the BNP with a better dress code and better PR sense.

Spot on.
All they have in common is hatred for all things foreign. Even then they hate for different reasins.

group that obtains much of its support through xenophobia and the goal of "making Britain British again."

This bit also seems to be true of the Tories given the speeches at their conference, which were delivered to keep the party happy, and that is much more worrying than UKIP.

Don't forget the majority of UK members of the European parliament are UKIP. They'll all lose their well paid jobs in the next couple of years when the UK leaves the EU. Although they have achieved that rare thing amongst politicians of actually succeeding in their main policy objective, it now means they will take a big hit financially. It's natural that tempers will flare as they fight over one of the few well paid jobs that MIGHT remain open to them - that of party leader.

UKIP MEP Mike Hookem denies assaulting Steven Woolfe

The UKIP MEP involved in an altercation with Steven Woolfe has said he "categorically did not" throw a punch at his colleague.

Mike Hookem acknowledged he and his colleague had a "scuffle" in the European Parliament but insisted that he did not hit him.

"I am innocent," he told the BBC. "I never threw a punch. I never assaulted him. I will stand my corner."

That's complete rubbish. But what else is to be expected from a lying idiot like Farage.
Also "English" isn't a race, or even a coherent ethnic division. At best it's a geopolitical grouping.

I'm reminded of Mosley's visit to Cardiff in '34.

Moderately, there's a lot of mixing between the eight/far-right groups in the UK. They've toned down the "We’re going to get rid of the Yids" so beloved of Mosley and the Blackshirts but "Britain for the British" is still going,

I feel that we are in an era of exaggeration. “UKIP” are fascists!” “Trump is Hitler!”

If you want to call either of the above ignorant, blowhard, jingoistic populists… you won’t get me disagreeing. But going the full fascist… that’s both weak-kneed hysteria and disrespectful to the memory of victims of real fascism.

They all had to start somewhere.
