Wikileaks' October Surprise

The rest of the world doesn't exist to them. You should see their coverage of Hurricane Matthew. They're showing that it's hitting Haiti as the newscaster is speaking and the entire story is "Southeast USA Braces for hurricane". Cuba? Jamaica? Haiti? The Bahamas? You can see the shapes on the map but they don't say a word.
Funny how we all see what we want to see. On FOX and other stations this morning I heard about the plight of people in the Caribbean. But all stations I saw focused on what it meant to the US. People care about what affects them. Myself included I was interested in what the forecast was for NY.

BTW This is from Fox News online now

Hurricane Matthew-- a Category 4 storm-- made landfall in western Haiti on Tuesday morning as towns and villages in the country braced for life-threatening winds, rains and a storm surge.

The dangerous storm was also dropping heavy rains on other parts of Haiti, the hemisphere's poorest country where many people live in flimsy shacks in areas prone to flooding. Heavy rain also fell on Jamaica and dangerous rainfall was a threat for the Dominican Republic, which adjoins Haiti.
Matthew had maximum sustained winds of 145 mph early Tuesday, and forecasters said its slowly advancing center would likely pass near or over Haiti's southwestern tip after dawn. It would continue on for another landfall expected in the lightly populated eastern end of Cuba, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

I'm always surprised with the way conspiratards use the phrase "do the math"... most of their audience is barely fluent in their own language! Math is no more at their reach than the horizon.

And? They caught up with the news. Good for them! I was watching, as I mentioned, Fox and Friends this morning, as they came on the air.... at 0600 hrs EDT.

I'd say I don't want to dereail this thread, but given the fact that the 'Wikileaks' seams to be going nowhere, its probably no big loss...
The only chance Trump has is Hillary sticking in the race. Everyone else would slaughter that guy. If there were polls between Bernie and Trump it would be a landslide.

I hope, I HOPE they have something that would force her to resign LoL. I don't hate Hillary, I think she's qualified and will do a good job, but I really like Sanders.
I really don't think Sanders would have been as viable as you think.

Yes, there were some polls during the primaries that showed Sanders beating various republicans, and he did have a very dedicated group of 'Bernie-Bros'. However, during the primaries, Sanders was almost completely ignored by the republicans (or even praising him) whereas Hillary was the focus of their attacks. Had Sanders won the Democratic nomination, you would have seen a totally change in the republican attitude. He'd become "Comrade Sanders", and they'd drag up all sorts of dirt on him... how he labeled himself a socialist and honeymooned in Russia (the cold war may be over, but there are limits on how open American voters would be to a candidate so supportive of communism). Or they could bring up the cost of his proposals. (Many Americans do like the idea of public health care or "free" college education, but support drops off once they realize how much taxes would have to increase to cover it.) And those are only the true things that the Republicans would use against him. (I'm sure they could fabricate more ammunition.)

Then there is also the issue of finances. Yes, it sounds noble to not accept corporate donations (like Sanders did during the primaries). But elections cost money, and relying only on small donations and union support will only get you so far. So, the Democrats would raise less cash, and many wealthy Republicans who have avoided Trump so far (with the rational that Clinton is relatively moderate) would probably decide Trump was better than the alternative of Sanders.

Rick-Rolled!

The All Trump 24/7 Network (d.b.a. "Fox") has now reverted to referring to him as a crook and traitor after taking the bait and hyping The Big Wikileaks Release for the past week.
You figure they would have learned their lesson after Trump did the same sort of thing... claiming some big news release, and then using the opportunity to promote the opening of a new hotel.

IMHO Assange is pretty much seen, even by the casual election follower, as a stooge for Putin. This wrecks his creditbility.

So it's over? I thought he was moving back whatever he had to Wednesday because of an "assassination attempt."

I've had to invest more credibility in the reports from former-Wikileaks employees who say Assange is a relentless self-promoter. A little while back he left me feeling discomforted when he offered to turn himself in in exchange for Obama pardoning Manning. Of course Obama will NEVER pardon Manning, so the whole thing just reeked of "Hey, look at me!"

Anybody else remember Al Capone's Vault?

Alex Jones' sidekick made that reference on infowars. Alex was pretty upset that they got trolled.

eta: actually it was someone reading a tweet.

Actually, I think those proposals would not cost that much as you may fear. Right now, there are lots of different programs for supporting students in their college education, which all have their own bureaucracy and forms which have to be filled out and checked etc. whether an applicant complies with the rules of the program. Just making it free for anyone would free up all the money that is now spent on senseless bureaucracy. Likewise, a "Medicare for all" health care would also rid of a lot of bureaucracy; mind that right now, public expenditure in the USA for health care is the same percentage of GDP as all expenditure in the UK; see jimbob's signature for a link. :)

For the rest, I agree that the Republicans would have a lot of dirt on Sanders, real or imagined. Indeed, his "honeymoon" which was primarily a business trip; there was also a video where he sort-of apologized for the Cuban regime which would go down very well in the Republican propaganda machine, and then nobody really dug into his past yet to find more dirt, real or imagined.

yeah, but it has taken the Clintons years to amass the 50-100 (depending on which right wing source) casualties who were associated with them. With Bernie, sure they could have looked back in time, but it's much easier to cite 'mysterious deaths' in real time. At most, I'd say Bernie could've knocked off maybe a half dozen associates before Election Day...

Gee, I thought Assange's October surprise was going to be, "Yeah, I did rape that girl."

He just promised leaks to come??

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/wikileaks-assange-promises-leaks-u-s-election-google/

BERLIN — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange promised “significant” disclosures on subjects including the U.S. election and Google in the coming weeks as the secret-spilling group marked its 10th anniversary on Tuesday.

Assange said WikiLeaks plans to start publishing new material starting this week, but wouldn’t specify the timing and subject. Speaking by video link to an anniversary news conference in Berlin, he said the leaks include “significant material” on war, arms, oil, internet giant Google, the U.S. election and mass surveillance.

WikiLeaks hopes “to be publishing every week for the next 10 weeks,” Assange said.

WikiLeaks, which released Democratic National Committee emails days before the party’s national convention earlier this year, wouldn’t say who or what campaign would be affected by the upcoming U.S. election leaks. Assange said speculation that he or WikiLeaks intend to harm Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is “false.”

Fox News headline:

WikiLeaks' 'October Surprise' fails; Assange promises more to come

Anyone who stayed up late or got up early anticipating an "October Surprise" from WikiLeaks heard no bombshells from the organization's founder in an overnight appearance via video.
. . .
Despite widespread speculation he would reveal game-changing information on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Assange's 3 a.m. ET appearance featured no new revelations, although he did promise to publish information regarding the presidential election “every week for the next 10 weeks.”

(10 weeks? There's only 5 weeks till the election.)

Wikileaks Trolls Trump World Delivers NOTHING

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...-trump-world-delivers-nothing-on-hillary.html

Pretty much one of the options I posited in the OP. Assange took a page from Trump's book and announced Big Doings! and turned it into an infomercial.

Oh, you think this semi-slanderous stuff the DNC people said about Bernie is big news, well just you wait. I've got lots more leaks. I have the best leaks, all the leaks. Leaks that are bigly big.

And the GOP/Breitbart/Drudge unholy alliance is now left with less than the Assange Hail Mary Pass. Their end game plan now seems to be designed by Rex Ryan. "Okay, Ann will keep 'em busy on the left flank and Sean will talk about patriotism in the center and Donnie can sneak into the end zone and lie down so that his orange blends in with the green grass and pop up and Reince will hit him with the winning pass. It'll work, I swear."
