What the actual ****?

@anamariecox
Trump on vet suicide: “they see things…a lot of folks in this room see & you’re strong & you can handle it, but some ppl can’t handle it.”

@anamariecox
This at 45:00, link below. Had to go back and just make sure I got the offensive ******** verbatim.

It's actually at 1:07:00

How dare reporters go and talk to people who worked with your dear "leader" and find out what an unprofessional scumbag he is.

Did it ever occur to you that that industry is made up by wannabe 15 minutes of fame people? No obviously not! ;)

Yeah no way a guy who publicly tells us how hot his daughter is and how he would be dating her if she wasn't his daughter would behave like a pig to people he works with with.

Are you serious?
NBC has quite the track record of manufacturing news. Look it up.

A) false and
B) your assertion, you prove it.

And C) is the Associated Press also in range of your broad brush? Their reporters get the investigation credit in the story, not NBC.

Here's an expert who says Trump's tax breaks are unique to the real estate industry, not other businesses and certainly not us (speaking for myself) wage-slaves, and that his "losses" are aren't real money, as most of us would understand it.

To the extent he implied your conclusion (I don't think he did, but arguably he confused the issue), he is wrong. The exemption for real estate development is an exemption from an exception to the passive activity rules for rental activity.

That is, the tax code penalizes people for losses in investments in which they did not materially participate as a business. People actively managing a business get full use of their deductions for business expenses and losses. However, the code makes clear that rental activity is usually a passive activity, even if you are the primary manager of your rental properties.

An exception to this, which makes perfect sense and is eminently fair, is that if your business is in fact renting and/or developing real estate, rental activity is not considered a passive activity. For Trump, renting real estate out is his business. He absolutely deserves to have all of the expenses and losses from that business be deemed ordinary deductions.

....

From the second link:
I’m guessing, but I can’t tell for sure — there’s not enough information — that the loss has to do with the collapse of his empire. I don’t understand how Trump, who had very little of his own cash invested in his projects in the 1990s but did personally guarantee part of their debt, could end up with tax losses of that magnitude. They’re almost certainly paper losses rather than out-of-pocket losses.
It’s possible that those losses somehow vanished into the ether from which they came — we have no way to tell.

The underlying question is whether Trump, who mostly operates with borrowed money and and whose primary business is licensing his name, actually experienced the losses he claims. Of course, he could resolve all questions and show the world how "smart" he is by releasing his tax returns, like all other presidential candidates.

Okay, do you remember the controversy of GM side saddle fuel tanks. NBC wanted the truck to explode when crashed into, to get that done they put devices on the tanks.

NBC news was caught tinkering with the Trayvon Martin 911 tape.

More recently Andrea Mitchell of NBC News Washington, was caught doctoring multiple news segments throughout her career.

Is that enough?

But what you should concentrate on is these good folks have an ax to grind against Trump.

Nicely explained, thanks.

I thought I was drifting into the weeds when I hit, "exemption from an exception to the passive activity rules for rental activity" but reading on, clarity emerged. A very solid, logical explanation of the tax code. Well done.

I still think Trump is a douche.

I think they'll use it in the way they like. Did he make comments on their looks, probably. Is that so unusual?

To be that vile, crude and misogynistic - for a man running for PRESIDENT?

Yes. Not so bad if you're a 12 year old who just now figured out what boobies are for.

And the AP, who actually did the investigative reporting?

Yeah, that excerpt from the second link is just flat out wrong. Trump's difficulties with the casino bankruptcies in the early 1990s are well-known. He had personally guaranteed their high yield debt to the tune of more than $800 million. He was forced to liquidate assets and transfer portions of his ownership in various properties to his lenders. His lenders even made him agree to abide by a budget for his own living expenses. A relatively spartan one too, something like $400,000 per month. It must have been quite a difficult time for him. I can't even imagine living on only $400,000 per month. ;)

Anyway, the losses were definitely real. This wasn't just on paper. They were very personal and severely impacted his lifestyle. I don't understand how Allan Sloan could write such nonsense frankly. I bet it was partially written by somebody else, and he didn't check it.

A quick google search suggests this is BS from the right-wing echo chamber. That's all I'll have to say here, as we're straying from thread topic.

Hence my item B above. But as usual the citation silence is deafening, and also a red herring.

The AP, logger? The 20 interviewees presenting a consistent narrative? Are all of those people "scumbag opportunists" as well?

Logger demonstrated once again the trump supporter's amazing superpower of deflecting any criticism of Teh Donald with playground quality strategery.
