Trump loses almost a billion dollars in one year and Giuliani calls him a genius.
Iconic, wasn't it? The definitive Trump experience. From that link:
Who says The Cheeto is not a details guy? Nine sentences. Not eight. Not ten. Nine pithy, direct, killer sentences.
Oh, wait. He went off the rails again.
Yes, in a general sense, but not in detail. It's a bit like m'dog going through the park : we go in at one end, come out the other, but in-between it's squirrel here, zoom, squirrel there, zoom, ooh look that squirrel from yesterday I'll have 'im this time ... A one mile stroll for me, five frenzied miles for him, and we're both happy at the end of it.Can you imagine a State of the Union address from this chucklehead?
Generally speaking, you owe tax on income when you receive it. Why shouldn't you be required to claim your losses the same way. And if your losses in any one year are bigger than your income, well, tough.
Not necessarily. While losing $1 million you also had to under pay employees and contractors. Everyone from the bank to the office supply store probably suffered.
So you should be able to write off some of it, but you should also have to pay a stiff penalty for not being a good businessman. The penalty will discourage reckless risk decisions.
In his years as a reality TV boss on "The Apprentice," Donald Trump repeatedly demeaned women with sexist language, according to show insiders who said he rated female contestants by the size of their breasts and talked about which ones he'd like to have sex with.
The Associated Press interviewed more than 20 people — former crew members, editors and contestants — who described crass behavior by Trump behind the scenes of the long-running hit show, in which aspiring capitalists were given tasks to perform as they competed for jobs working for him.
The staffers and contestants agreed to recount their experiences as Trump's behavior toward women has become a core issue in the presidential campaign. Interviewed separately, they gave concurring accounts of inappropriate conduct on the set.
Eight former crew members recalled that he repeatedly made lewd comments about a camerawoman he said had a nice rear, comparing her beauty to that of his daughter, Ivanka.
See, I think the ability to lay off the loss over a period of years in tax deductions is reasonable to some extent, but that extent stops well short of providing those deductions to those who remain wealthy even after a huge loss. Making it easier for people to bounce back without becoming homeless, taking money from their 401k or kids' college funds, etc. is a reasonable goal. Providing monstrous tax breaks to people with multiple expensive homes, boats, jets, and millions or more in other assets is Crazytown...and it's what we get when money corrupts the political system beyond what anyone should find acceptable.
Yeah. I think that if you are making enough money that you can afford to live a wealthy lifestyle then it's ludicrous if you aren't paying any income tax.
On a practical level, I can't blame Trump for legally using the tax code to minimize his tax burden. However, it's still a big punch in the gut to see someone flying around in helicopters, owning several incredibly expensive properties, and otherwise living a lavish lifestyle not paying any income tax while I make a fraction of the money he does, and I still pay a large percentage of my income in income tax.
It's an even bigger punch in the gut when such a person tries to present himself as a friend of the working class and not part of the privileged elite.
Is it really scummy to rank women by their appearance?
Kinda crass, depending on the circumstances, but is it not something most men do as a matter of course?

Yes, particularly when judging them for job suitability, at least outside the modeling world. Even actors have to possess skills that trump their looks; there are stunningly beautiful/handsome actors that lose jobs to less physically attractive people because they're not as good at acting, even setting aside "character" roles. Hell, there are models that haven't made it in their field despite being great to look at. In most customer-facing jobs, being physically attractive isn't nearly as important as having good people skills and being generally competent. Is it really scummy to rank women by their appearance?

Trump fanboys who call him a great businessmen usually don't know what kind of business he's in.
I agree that the skills of a real estate developer (by some stretch of the imagination) might be considered transferable to 'rebuilding our country'.
But almost all Trump's own projects have failed, sometimes spectacularly. The only thing he seems to be able to build is Golf Courses.
Trump is in the brand silencing business, nothing else.
And does anyone think that America'S problems can be fixed by a re-branding?
