Presidential Debates

When Trump asked Clinton if she preferred being addressed as "Secretary Clinton," if that made her happy, that her "being happy was important" to him, I found it boorish and arrogant. Completely uncalled for
I thought it looked like Trump was trying to establish the upper hand in the initial exchange of niceties with that sort of move, but was completely blindsided by Hillary's jabs at him. He was visibly caught off-guard and never really recovered from that.

Regardless of how most people experienced the debate, I wonder how Donald feels about it. If he feels wounded, and he certainly gave that impression, that could have consequences for his behaviour.

I'm imagining a Clinton campaign ad that features Donald Trump saying "wrong" or "I never said that", followed by a clip of him saying it.

Of course, the full compilation would have to go on youtube, because no way could it fit in an ad.

It seemed to me that both candidates were using this debate to test the waters: neither did bring out the big guns.
This is an advantage for Clinton, who might have stopped Trump's momentum.
It could also mean that Monday's Trump was the most presidential we'll ever see.

Even on Fox they were saying (or allowing their paid talking heads, not the Fox presenters) that the comparison in the body language was telling. I've mentioned in cross-exchanges but the summary is:

Hillary walked forward afterwards and got Bill up and interacted with the crowd - her own supporters, of course. They were working the room like practiced professionals.

Trump looked (this is a quote from a commentator) like more than anything he wanted to get the hell out of there and immediately moved to the back of the stage and struck photogenic poses with his photogenic family. But they were frozen in time and none of them were leaning in and hugging him or slapping him on his back. Very uncomfortable looking group.

When they were leaving the building, Bill's got his coffee (or beverage of choice in a take-away cup) and he and Hillary are chatting and smiling. The Trump crowd was looking at the ground and ver pensive looking (or Pence-ive).

He knows he got whupped. I expect him to start a Twitter fight - the only question is with whom? He won't take on Hillary; she just kicked his ass. Probably Pocahontas.... maybe CNN?

No, that he did not bring up that bill is a sleaze who had fat interns perform fellatio on him in the Oval Office.

Some of us prefer our women on the larger side. Monica wasn't even fat, she was just closer to average than a supermodel.

Only caught a tiny bit about it regarding Charlotte and police violence and all of that.

It still blows my mind that neither one will say "end the drug war" (legalize marijuana) considering it would be the best change for the "black community" as well as being what the I think most lay people want to just "get over with"

About that sniffling...

Trump can't help himself. It's bizarre the way he lies about something so small and obvious. Paper thin skin.

Many people are saying that he did a bunch of coke before the debate.

He can't stay focused. He could have taken a 1-2 punch here and goes to talk about HIMSELF of course.

CLINTON: And if I had to do it over again, I would, obviously, do it differently. But I’m not going to make any excuses. It was a mistake, and I take responsibility for that.
HOLT: Mr. Trump?
TRUMP: That was more than a mistake. That was done purposely. OK? That was not a mistake. That was done purposely. When you have your staff taking the Fifth Amendment, taking the Fifth so they’re not prosecuted, when you have the man that set up the illegal server taking the Fifth, I think it’s disgraceful. And believe me, this country thinks it’s — really thinks it’s disgraceful, also.
As far as my tax returns, you don’t learn that much from tax returns. That I can tell you. You learn a lot from financial disclosure. And you should go down and take a look at that.
The other thing, I’m extremely underleveraged. The report that said $650 (million) — which, by the way, a lot of friends of mine that know my business say, boy, that’s really not a lot of money. It’s not a lot of money relative to what I had.

Wow!

I have never seen someone who has gotten terribly amused and so terribly scared at exactly the same time by the same person at the same event.

Lolz, she almost fell on her face about ten times.

It is called a fake smile, and her dolls eyes plus nervous laughs were frightening.

Have you considered seeing a therapist about these delusions?

The funny thing is everyone is talking about trump, not fidgety mcblinky.

Big win for trump.
Even the republican talking heads concede that Trump fared poorly.

He apparently won the low IQ demographic though. He positively slayed the 16-17 range. Modern analytics, gotta love them.

By the way, ...

Did anyone else happen to notice how Trump sort of admitted that he did not pay any income taxes?

I wonder if that is the real reason why he does not release his tax records.

Yes I noticed that and yeah that's probably one of the reasons he will be the first candidate in decades to not release his tax returns.

He seems to have a talent of lying in the moment, and not caring about being fact checked later. Maybe that is beneficial. If so, I would expect his tax returns to be released very close to election day, spun with a lot of explanations about deductions and business rules and such, that he figures will not be completely digested by the voting public until after the election.
