Presidential Debates

Can't seem to find anything about what the ratings actually turned out to be. There was some talk of it maybe being bigger than the Super Bowl? Meanwhile MNF ratings were expected to take a hit. This was the thing Trump was complaining about with his imaginary letter from the NFL.

Prognosticators think the inaugural Hillary-Donald show will be the second most watched TV event of the year after the Super Bowl, which drew 111.9 million viewers. It could challenge the previous debate record of 80 million set in 1980 when Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan hit the stage for the first time.

ESPN and advertisers are already bracing for the hit. Ad rates for the game are the lowest-priced of any contest on the 16-game Monday Night docket, according to the Wall Street Journal. Advertisers are expecting 10.3 million to 11 million fans to tune into the game, which falls below the 12 million to 14 million audience ESPN promises advertisers for MNF.

(There was only one televised Carter-Reagan debate, btw, not three like this time.)

I would be surprised if this wasn't the most watched debate ever. Even if you don't take into to account people watching online. And Donald screwed up.

LOL

A normal person would take this as a sign that he should prepare better for next time. For example, I don't think Obama took Romney seriously (or as seriously as he should have) for the first debate. He changed that and won the next two. I don't think Donald will change anything with regards to his prep. I'm sure his campaign will beg him to but they no doubt tried to get him to prepare for this one too.

The story so far, or the take away is that the political forum is an absolute echo chamber of mostly hardcore liberals.

I think Trump benefits from this debate.

Most people polled about it and even talking heads on Fox News don't think so. But I guess reality is a liberal echo chamber too.

That loser scumbag Donald Trump was apparently complaining about his mic.

They just played a clip of Donald saying that Hillary has been fighting ISIS her whole life. I guess I missed it earlier. What a moron.

I remember that moment and I remember thinking it bizarre at the time. Was it some sort of insult? If so, I didn't get it. Anyone care to explain?

I happen to agree. Trump can (and has) lied his way through the debate, spoken unintelligibly at times, blustered and did everything that commentators said he would but has still "won" the debate.

Facts don't matter, performance doesn't really matter.

It's quite funny.

It's like the million dollar challenge where the used to film them before the test agreeing that everything is fair.

Then straight afterwards so they couldn't think of excuses hours later

But most people say he lost?

Well, Trump certainly brought his A game: he did look for the most part like an actual candidate, and without the fact-checking it would seem like he was up to the task for most of the time.

I can not see him doing better. And if he does even a bit worse the next time, it will be considered a fail.

So what are the odds that after Donald finds out that most people think he lost the debate will claim that it was rigged? 100%?

I think the next debate will be moderated by Anderson Cooper? Who will probably be tougher. Not that Lester Holt did a terrible job.

He will claim the opposite. That most people think he won the debate.
