And right there illustrates the lousy state of the political media. With an answer like that about the foundation, the reporter just slides to the next question?

Agreed. I hope in the upcoming debates when either one fails to answer a question, the moderators call them on it.

What I'm more worries about is the optics: Trump is significantly wider and taller than Clinton. It will be hard to shake the 'frail women' image next to him.

I don't know about the optics, but the visuals will be a challenge. She's gonna look like Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies.

Funny how you abuse the word "racism" by linking it to Obama's birth certificate. Once again I'll point out how dishonest it is to claim racism, when race has nothing to do with it.

Racism means nothing today because leftist use it for everything. ;)

You would have been right at the start of the Birther movement. There were a lot of conspiracy theories flying around. At this stage however the only Birthers left are racists using it as a dog whistle for the racial epithets they'd rather be shouting. The Birther "evidence" is so shredded, so demolished, so eviscerated, that "Bubba" on this forum may be the only non-racist left advocating it, and he seems to be doing it more as a thought experiment than actually believing it. The Birther movement had become the domain of overt racists long before Trump jumped on that bandwagon. When he did it, it was a dog-whistle to racists that he was one of them.

"This is must-watch video of an interview by former TPM reporter Evan McMorris-Santoro, shot on April 16th 2011. It shows a remarkably candid Donald Trump explaining how and why he saw birtherism as essentially a ticket to power.

He claims credit for "reinvigorating the issue" and criticizes then House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for knocking birthers because "people love this issue, especially in the Republican party."

Jeez.... the entire article should be read. She's just a bucket of bigotry, that one. He's got all the people. The best people. So well informed and rounded in their world views.

They must not believe their own polls which show him doing well in Ohio. He may think that getting Don King to introduce him (and get caught on camera snickering when King uses the N-word), then makes comments on Tulsa that sound like he's been recruited for Black Lives Matter, and it's so obvious that he's pandering. He's an unctuous chicken ****. He's standing in front of a room full of black people (and a double-murderer) and he neglected to mention that he wants to increase stop-and-frisk, or has repeatedly said we need to love our LEOs and respect them.

Why does favoring stop-and-frisk laws have any racial implication at all? Unless you assume racial profiling as a criteria.

For the record, I am opposed to them - they seem to violate the Fourth Amendment guarantee against unreasonable search.

Donald is specifically citing New York's use of it that was struck down due to it using racial profiling.

Judge Shira Scheindlin of Federal District Court in New York upheld the bedrock principle of individual liberty on Monday when she ruled that the tactics underlying New York City’s stop-and-frisk program violated the constitutional rights of minority citizens. She found that the city had been “deliberately indifferent” to police officers illegally detaining and frisking minority residents on the streets over many years.

Judge Scheindlin was clearly speaking of Mayor Michael Bloomberg when she concluded: “The City’s highest officials have turned a blind eye to the evidence that officers are conducting stops in a racially discriminatory manner. In their zeal to defend a policy that they believe to be effective, they have willfully ignored overwhelming proof that the policy of singling out “the right people” is racially discriminatory and therefore violates the United States Constitution.”

...

At the heart of the Floyd case are statistics showing that the city conducted an astounding 4.4 million stops between January 2004 and June 2012. Of these, only 6 percent resulted in arrests and 6 percent resulted in summonses. In other words, 88 percent of the 4.4 million stops resulted in no further action — meaning a vast majority of those stopped were doing nothing wrong. More than half of all people stopped were frisked, yet only 1.5 percent of frisks found weapons. In about 83 percent of cases, the person stopped was black or Hispanic, even though the two groups accounted for just over half the population.

Because in practice racial profiling has always been a feature of stop and frisk.

And I agree with your view of the 4th.

Goodness, the highlighted bit means nothing. Don King slipped into terms he usually uses, but oughtn't use in an event like this. The immediate reaction is bemused surprise, which comes out as a chuckle. Big deal.

I don't think a wee bit less of Trump for his snickering at this gaffe. To be sure, it is difficult to think less of him, but had Hillary been in the same situation and her reflex had been to snicker, I would think no less of her. The snicker is about a man's indiscretion when he ought to be discreet.

NVM.

Writing a long reply but I see Stacko covered it pretty quickly with a good link. You have to remember where/when Trump and Giuliani are from.

Michael Steele correctly called out this brand of racism for what it's always been.

Former RNC Chair Michael Steele said Trump's focus on "nonsensical" issues like birtherism was "nothing more than ******** racism — excuse my French."

Appearing on David Axelrod's podcast "The Axe Files," Steele, whose reign as RNC chair was marred by lackluster fundraising and his own foibles, didn't hold back when it came to Trump and race.

"You cannot say to me that given the 400 plus years of this country, that at the very moment the country decides to elect the first Black man president of the United States, you going to ask for his papers? Seriously? Seriously?" said Steele. "I can go all day long about what's wrong with Syria and economic policy and foreign policy with this administration. But I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here and say 'You need to show me your papers first.' That's not how this works."
