Firearms are for sporting and hunting

"This country has a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem and a tyranny problem disguised as a security problem."

-Joe Rogan

There's lots of stupid stuff in the clip; perhaps he was seeing how gullible people are?
“Only seven trips where human beings have gone past 400 miles” Let's see, Gemini 10 (408 miles), Gemini 11 (739 miles) Apollo 8, Apollo 11-17. That makes makes nine. “Every satellite in inside the protective VAB.....” “In 1969 no one thought we'd have VCR's (first sold in 1963 for home use) or the internet (invented in 1969).” “The Soviets were more advanced....” (for several months anyway). “Armstrong does not to this day give interviews”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhk8rIkqdOk

But back in 2012 Rogen finally admitted that men did land on the moon.

Unfortunately, many people, very likely a majority of people, give very little thought to these things since on averages, the actual incidence of crime is quite low.
Folks go blithely about their business, paying little attention to what's going on around them, and spending very little of their mental energy on "situational awareness".

Our kids get robbed at a relatively constant rate. We tell them, constantly, not to do this, and not to do that, and to avoid this situation and that....
But they are young and invincible and busy with their studies and so they ignore all those warnings. They walk alone down dark alleys, half-drunk, headphones in place.....

With my first deparment, burglary was the # 1 crime problem in the county. I probably handled at least dozens and perhaps hundreds of cases in my 10 years. The number of people who made any effort at all towards home security was very small. Modern tract homes are ridiculously easy to break into. The contractor will use the cheapest possible security hardware and it all comes down to the homeowner to try to make the residence secure. I don't see this improving anytime soon.... Again, the actual incidence of crime is quite low and the chances of being victimized are low.
However, one of my favorite quotes still stands... "You don't need a gun very often, but when you do, you need one really bad."

When my family moved to Detroit in the late 1960's, we were burglarized twice in the course of two years at two different residences. Both times the burgalers hit within a week of us having moved in - before we could even change the locks. One group came right through the locked front door of our house as if they had the keys to the house (and we are sure they did). Another came through the windows of our condo (9th floor) from the 10th floor condo above (or so it is speculated). Damned inside jobs I bet...I can only guess that it was the Real Estate people.

Sounds like it.

Easy to say after the fact but I wouldn't move into a place before the locks are changed

Don't you have alarms over there?

Sure we do. But you got to remember, this happened in the 1960's before electricity was invented.

Individuals do use firearms successfully to defend themselves.
I never said they didn't. I said that the number of times oft claimed by the gun lobby is vastly exaggerated. Your statistic upheld that statement. Thank you for making my point for me.

Your point of view on the subject notwithstanding, and I'm so relieved that the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights in (what's cf? is that a slur against Sicilians or Italians? trigger warning! trigger warning!) in Article Three takes a completely useless stand on a subjective state of mind.

I'll take our ********** up system over the alternative if it's the (I was going to type UDHR but I don't want to infer some slur I have no way to know is a slur) Universal blah, blah, blah.
You might want to avoid posting while drunk - you're bordering on incoherent. I know you didn't know it was a slur, that's why I politely pointed it out to you. And you are aware that the United States is a signatory and co-suthor of the UDHR, right? Lovely lady by the name of Eleanor Roosevelt. Take a look at your own history sometime - it may be instructive.

BStrong didn't know it was a slur because it's not - except perhaps in your tiny SJW group. But if you want the rest of humanity to even consider your view, you need to spread the trigger word. notify Wiki

In your post:

"Criminals have guns, therefore citizens need guns to defend themselves from them. Even though by the time you have brought your gun from idle to action, the criminal may well have already shot you. Criminals have guns expecting to use them. They use them to threaten and intimidate - they already have it drawn. When a criminal has a gun drawn on you, the expectation that you will be able to draw your own gun from its concealed holster, disengage the safety, aim and fire before the criminal has a chance to move a single finger is pure Hollywood Wild West fantasy."

It appears to me that your assertion is that individuals faced with an armed criminal threat can't use a firearm for defense.

I provided evidence to the contrary that you hand waved away.

Just as most of the world ignores the blizzard of soothing words that come out of the U.N. the UDHR is ignored here and has no standing in the U.S. court system as it relates to anything past refugee status and asylum:

"You as a human being have a right to be able to walk about your neighbourhood without the expectation that you will be suddenly murdered if you are not armed"

The U.N. has no more ability to enforce statutes to guarantee an individuals' state of mind than I have the ability to teach my cat how to answer the phone.

I'll put it like this. Individual goes through and complies with all the requirements to legally carry a concealed handgun, I've got no issues with that.

If a guy tells me he needs to carry an MP5, a handgun and a couple of frags to feel safe since that's what he was geared up with on Route Irish, he's got a problem that I can't help.

On the subject of posting whilst drunk, not so much. On the subject of pov as a slur, I'm betting that little line is going to follow you around for awhile - since you couldn't be bothered to address actual evidence and threw the poor me card.

Weak stuff.

Then you are mistaken.
Actually, I take that back. You are not honestly mistaken. You are deliberately interpreting what I said in such a way as to make me look bad. You are taking what I did say and twisting the meaning such that it fits your strawman of gun control advocates.

You are another one whose ideology cannot allow them to see any interpretation other than the worst possible one - especially when such an interpretation is not intended. You are forced to make anyone who disagrees with you look as bad as possible, in order that you may disagree with them the more strongly.

Hence, I no longer feel that I need to respond.

And...if you want to find out how valid are their concerns, simply ask them who is most likely to shoot them.

I'll give you mine:

If I get shot, then it will probably happen at night somewhere along the empty stretches of the Texas Coast. I'll be fishing,or returning from fishing, more likely. My assailant will probably be a 17-19 year-old Latino who is a born psycopath who has never been seriously diagnosed or counseled (for this cost money and Republican Administrations hate to spend money on health care). At this age, he's probably been in a street gang, but also been kicked out. Ya' see, gangs are social institutions and psycopaths (a.k.a. Sociopaths) tend to be so anti-social that they will have gotten rid of a kid like this long ago. Even criminal gangs have standards of brotherhood. He'll be old enough to be extremely angry and dangerous, but not so old that he has been shipped off to the prison System for good. I'll just be one of his many thrill kills before he is sent off to the prison system forever. There will be no bargaining with this kid....he's out to kill and the robbery he commits is just a cover for his will to murder. But...he could also be white (although the odds aren't as high) and fit a similar profile. I just don't see how black people fit in at all...they just aren't that angry or numerous (at least from my experience along the Texas coast).

Now...if I lived in Dallas....now there's a whole 'nuther profile!

So "everyone" has been reduced to the tiny percentage of the population that is "pro guns for everyone"? Although you're greatly shifted the goalposts, this tells me nothing about why you think you're going to have a gun pulled on you.
