Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part V

It doesn't take a smart person to play the media for chumps these days. Just a microphone and a whole lot of stupid does the trick.

As others have pointed out the press just want a shiny new headline to feed that 24 hour news cycle, and of course if any of them try to take Trump to task for his statements he just yells conspiracy and bans them from his events.

I wonder if news was just more informative in the days before radio, when it had no choice but to take it slower.

At least some of the newscasters are stopping the Trumpers in their tracks when they falsely blame the birtherism on Clinton. I see the BBC just showed the clip of Trump lying without any rebuttal.

Is it the BBCs job to 'rebut' him?

I assume by this you have no qualms with price-gouging on epi-pens so a couple of people can get rich off of people who cannot afford this life saving product? Easy to say as long as you don't suffer from a potentially fatal allergic reaction.

Now as it turns out, a lot of fire departments purchase epi-pens for their emergency services. So now your tax dollars are going to make a couple people rich, does that make it legit to regulate the price of epi-pens?

It's easy to cherry pick a single regulation, then not consider other reasons for the regulation. If there is evidence products are marketed in such a way as to encourage over-consumption of calories, it should be within the power of the community to address the problem.

It's hard to answer that question because here are the list of things that led to that price hike I oppose

FDA
Intellectual property /patents
Incorporation

Can you explain how the FDA led to the price increase in Epi-pens?

Also, do you know when we can expect to see Trump's tax returns?

Or the $5 million he now owes to charity?

Barriers created by the FDA restrict new entrants.

Please tell me you don't think I'm a Trump supporter. That is risible. He is the antithesis of everything libertarian.

The man is a HERO, in my home town of Dallas! Love him more every day. Get'em Mark!

How would that effect a product already on the market?

More generic versions could be available if they didn't have to prove to the FDA that they complied with the regulations.

Also, there are substitutes that the FDA does not allow pharmacies to substitute in.

Given we are looking at the very real possibility of a political catastrophe, I am really finding your flippant attitude toward everything very annoying. Time to get serious.

Why is that a bad thing?

That doesn't answer my question. There is no reason at all for the price increase other than "we want more money". That has nothing to do with the FDA. If anything, the FDA makes sure that they aren't substituting ingredients to save money at the expense of efficacy.

Price drops are motivated by nothing more than "we want more More money". The FDAs distortion of the market means that greed leads to higher price rather than lower.

Except the large, brand name company can lower its price low enough and take the hit long enough to drive the competition out, and then jack the price back up again. See Wal-Mart and to a lesser extent, Starbucks.

In short, you're still wrong. But this thread is about Junior. If you need folks to explain business, government, and markets, you should try another thread.

I'll take a stab and say no.

There seems to be a growing feeling that news presenters should be commenting on every piece of news that they report or show. I agree with your implication that this is not true unless it's a news commentary program and/or they're talking to "experts." In fact, constant commentary is exactly what we shouldn't want in a straight news program, and I say this whether the presenter is someone who would (either because of personal opinion or network opinion) agree with my views or not.

Just because at least half the things that come out of Trump's mouth are lies doesn't mean they shouldn't be presented somewhere without editorializing. As always, it's the responsibility of those watching to decide what to believe, hopefully based on facts and cogent analysis...and there's no end of analysis (cogent and otherwise) available to us, especially here in a world with the internet.
