Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part V

Anyone want to comment on Trump giving 6 weeks of paid leave?

...and I guess that's one of the differences between liberals and the right wing echo chamber.

Liberals will be willing to give (faint) praise where it's due if a political opponent takes a position that they agree with.

The echo chamber OTOH will immediately dismiss an opponent's policy even if it's exactly what they themselves were proposing previously.

I know and I wish I had taken the time to find an actual Trump supporter posting the sentiment instead of you. But, I was lazy and just did a quick flip through until I found your post.

I'm not saying you are wrong, it is just that as I was reading that vest thread I was reminded that there are some systems you really shouldn't put to the test in a live environment. Electing Trump as a means to test the robustness of our governing system seems similarly reckless.

And there is the risk the system survives but suffers long term damage. The system survived McCarthyism and Watergate, but as an outsider I would say it didn't come away unscathed.

And yet another Trumper appears on the scene, the Arkansas AG is on CNN with her canned speech, ignore the question, pivot to Clinton, repeat "the NY AG made a weak statement, he has no case, Trump's Foundation has done tremendous good, the NY AG's acting on Clinton's behalf" pivot back to Clinton, rinse, repeat.

CNN: "Do you think it's OK the Trump Foundation spent 20K on a painting of Trump?"

Arkansas AG: "I don't know, that's up to the charity, I don't know what their reason was," pivot back to Clinton.

Only a few of these newscasters are calling these people out. Mostly they just sit in silence and let the Trumpers repeat their spiels, the newscaster repeats the question, the Trumper repeats the spiel. We need more Joy Reids putting their foot down with these times wasters.

Too see it all laid out at once (or almost all, I'm sure it's not comprehensive, and of course Trump has likely likely generated more since it was made) is quite startling.

Some of the points he brings are questionable (e.g. Trump said that women should be punished if having an abortion illegally. Of course people should be punished when they break the law!), but the vast majority are not.

Agreed - very intelligent and witty.
Yet it's essentially just a list of things Trump has done and said, without embellishment. Definitely with some feeling, though.

Add to his list of Donald agreeing to talk about his health and then not.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/15/us/politics/donald-trump-health-dr-oz.html

Maybe his health exam results are under audit.
Maybe he was examined by a Muslim doctor during a secret trip to Kenya. Not that there's anything wrong with Kenyan Muslim doctors, of course, but I think we should be told. In the interests of transparency.

This is a bit of an aside, but it is worth pointing out that most anti-abortion groups do not advocate punishment for the mother because they see her as another victim in the abortion transaction.

The importance of this is that it highlights the fact that he has never really been pro-life or thought much about the pro-life movement. He just knows that he needs to sound pro-life to get the GOP base on board. He just assumed that the logical conclusion of outlawing abortion is to punish the person seeking an abortion.

That's what happens when you are a johnny-come-lately to a complex topic and don't take the time to listen to advisors. That is dangerous.

I noticed this on the NYT piece :

A cardiothoracic surgeon by training, Dr. Oz has a large female viewership, one reason the Trump campaign chose him as an outlet.
I don't think Trump has a problem with women voters because they haven't seen enough of him. Rather the opposite.

Trumpets aren't terribly bright, are they? Trump is, though. Bright orange.

That's incorrect. They don't advocate punishment for the mother because they see that as a political loser, and that advocating such a thing would hurt their cause. Of course, if abortion were ever made illegal, it is a near-certainty that there would be punishment for the woman voluntarily seeking or undergoing an abortion. Just like there is punishment for a woman killing her just-born infant.

The fact that Trump is not attuned to the political strategy of the anti-abortion movement is dangerous? Ignorance is dangerous in general, I suppose, although ignorance of how to speak disingenuously about that particular issue strikes me as rather innocuous, and perhaps even comforting.

I agree with you fully. It just caught my attention because it seems sometimes like the objection to his saying that is that it's outrageous on the face of it.

I read your post and completely misunderstood your point. I thought you were describing how Trump's businesses are giving six weeks of paid leave. I consider that a generous benefit and was going to say that I mischaracterized Trump's business practices.

Trump is proposing six weeks of medical leave. But again,, I consider that a generous position.

Although it's not exactly what it may sound like, it is a step in the right direction. You realize this concept is a Democratic/liberal one don't you?

It's good to see Trump appropriating some Democratic Party policies.

Sounds like a refreshingly progressive policy and one which isn't likely to go down well with employers or the GOP faithful - good for Trump.

Well it's a small step in the right direction, but the comparable provision here in the UK is 12 months. Also of course given Trump's track record he could come out tomorrow with a different number, or completely reverse himself. That's the fundamental issue with Trump, you have no idea where he stands from one day to the next.

You were told early on Trump isn't conservative. This isn't small government conservatism. He has continued to run this campaign with skill while his detractors label him a bumbling fool. I imagine as he comes more to the left towards "I promise to wipe your ass" type of policies more leftists will get on board, thereby, creating a landslide. Which will be epic and the greatest political upset ever.

Of course I will vote for him, despite this bone. ABC

I can provide quotes from pro-life advocates that support my claim. Can you provide anything to support yours?

I don't think the pro-life movement is disingenuous when it talks about protecting women. He is ignorant of the movement and the very people he is trying to attract. That he can't be arsed to know their agenda but expects their support is revealing. That he can't be arsed to know a complex topic before he starts proposing legislation or policy is frightening.
