An Italian town heavily hit by last month's earthquake is taking legal action against Charlie Hebdo, after it portrayed victims as pasta dishes.

Amatrice, where most of the 295 victims lived, filed an aggravated defamation complaint against the satirical French weekly magazine.

Italian magistrates will decide whether the case can proceed.

In response, Charlie Hebdo released a second cartoon, with the caption "Italians ... it's not Charlie Hebdo who built your homes, it's the Mafia!"

Like the cherished belief that political refugees and rescued sex-slaves deserve assistance, for example.

Most of what I've seen from Charlie Hebdo leads me to believe that they are attention whores that replace talent with gratuitous insult.
I will always defend their right to insult whomever they choose without fear of violence. They cannot be protected from a lawsuit, tough...

Unless it is a lie, they should be - and the mafia (under whatever name they call themselves now) deserve every hit against them until they are wiped from the Earth and in the earth.

Look we need to rejoice in the death of every child refugee, they will grow up to be sex offenders after all.

They were always so controversial in the good or bad direction. In fact that's mostly how they sold issues. They also AFAIK have a lot of process against them (and IIRC pretty much all won see next post).

That did not change with the murder, it just that most people supporting them internationally never knew about that.

Personally it is a question of free press (or heck killed), they are free to do such terrible picture, I support their right to publish it without getting sued, but I hate the content.

Pretty much they can. Humour / caricature is protected in France AFAIK. Defamation is not, but this is not defamatory.

I expect any lawsuit in france to be dismissed outright on the first day.

Unless one sides with the wrong side then they lock up the comedians. They are very willing to do that. Being racist against Syrians is OK being racist against Jews is wrong and not allowed for a comedian.
