Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part V

The wall is metaphorical in the sense that it won't end up being a 30 foot high concrete and steel wall for the entire border. There will be fencing in some areas and only electronic monitoring in other areas where there are already natural barriers. But, yes, the idea of the wall is not metaphorical. He really does plan to spend billions of dollars building up an artificial barrier along the Southern border, and I am all for it.

Seriously? That's not what Trump says.

Maybe Trump supporters aren't morons. Maybe they're just delusional, translating in their heads every word he says into more reasonable concepts.

This isn't a political crisis. It's a mental health crisis on an immense scale.

Joy Reid to Trumper, Boris Epshteyn, this morning, "Nice to see you add a complete falsehood there at the end." He wouldn't shut up, just continued to repeat his canned schtick talking over Reid and the other guest.

She was in top form this. This also happened.
Joy Reid drops the hammer on Trump advocate lying about Clinton as interview goes off the rails

You think that made Joy Reid look good? Sheesh, that is some bubble. The Trump guy looked completely reasonable to me. What did he say that was not reasonable?

Do you seriously think Trump was referring to them flipping our sailors the bird? I assume "gestures" refers to threatening actions, like getting too close, training guns on our ships or whatnot. Trump is not exactly the clearest speaker in the world, so I think it's not a stretch to say that he didn't mean what you apparently think he meant.

Good afternoon sunmaster14.
No idea what Trump thinks. I'm guessing no one does including him. I also believe that the statements released by the U.S. navy are very well made. "Threatening actions" = being a holes. It's a very cautious statement for the general public. I'm guessing that if in fact our ship felt threatened it would have taken out the offenders. There are lots of cases of other nations creating a vision of bravado. The restraint demonstrated by our navy showed the professionalism of our military.

Why, is it his plan to bankrupt casinos on every inhabitable continent?

Really? The guy who sees a dispute about an airport stairway as an insult that cannot be ignored would not have viewed the detention of American service men as an insult which cannot be ignored?

No one has ever accused Trump of being a patient man. He has already stated that he knows more than the generals and that he will not listen to foreign policy advisors. That guy is going to wait ten days before releasing a letter saying that the US is very sorry that the Chines pilot died?

These are examples of why Trump is TEMPERAMENTALLY UNFIT to be President. One of the things I agree with Sunmaster about is that the President doesn't need to know everything and it is much more about leadership and sound judgment. Trump can't be trusted to treat Marco Rubio and his allies right, why would anyone think he has to judge relations, with Iraq, Iran, Russia or China right. People forget that many Saddam may or even probably wouldn't have invaded Kuwait had not George W. Bush subtly suggest that the US would do nothing. Trump is a loose cannon and cannot be trusted.

You mean George H. W. Bush, but in any case, the accusations were made against his ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie. For the most part I consider them unsubstantiated. Here is an article on the dispute.

And rather than saying Trump is a loose cannon, I would instead say he is an unknown quantity. He is a loose cannon in speech, but I have seen no other evidence that he is a loose cannon in deed. Despite some failures here and there, he has managed to stay pretty wealthy. Some of his outrageous behavior is probably strategic, for the purpose of getting publicity and enhancing his brand.

I thought she looked GREAT! You're the one living in a bubble. David Malpass was doing exactly what you do on this forum. Iit's all guilt by innuendo. It's guilt entirely out of THIN AIR!

What specifically did he say that you disagree with? Give me an example.

1. You're right, it was Papa Bush, that was what I was thinking but I wrote his son.

2. NO, Trump is definitely a loose cannon. His arrogance and temper and his socially unacceptable behavior makes it highly probable that he will say the wrong things. Trump does not know when or how to keep his mouth shut. That makes him dangerous. Here is one example that cost Trump the project he wanted to do most, Television City. He threatened NYC mayor Ed Koch both privately and publicly when trying to get a 700 million dollar tax abatement.. Trump has 2 tactics. The first is to lavish praise and the second is to lob bombs. He often burns bridges and makes enemies when he should be building bridges and making friends.

He's a loose cannon that lacks judgment.

It's the post-Breitbart Gish Gallop. You ask any Trump mouthpiece any question.... "What do you think about the candidate saying yesterday that he wanted to barbecue the Army mule at half time next Saturday?"

"Clinton's emails, Clinton's Foundation, Not Healthy, Press Conferences...."

"Uh, that has nothing to do with the question which was about your candidate's strange statement about serving up mule-fritters ...."

"Quaaaawwwk! Emails Foundation. Hear the cough. Press Conference.

They all do it. I've even seen O'Reilly roll his eyes at them.

As a (now somewhat anxious) Belgian, I have to ask: do you think this can work? Can they do this for the next two months and ... win?

I did a not-so-random check. The first 22 names on the list.... because 2 had no information I could locate and I wanted a clean, rounded-up 20. Seventy Per Cent born in the 30s. Thirty per cent from the 40s. Zero per cent on "early retirement".... e.g. born in the 50s.

Yep, it's like a GOP Dream Voter Book..... Old White Guys.

But did anyone ask them if they actually support Trump, or did the campaign just find names of military leaders who at some point have held the same views?

<snip>

Like TubbaBlubba, you are really stretching the meaning of virtue signaling. Pointing out that something is mostly about virtue signaling is not virtue signaling itself. It's called explanation and argument.

Yeah. Right.

Very slick.

Whatever. Of course no good debate in USA Politics could possibly happen without personal attacks along the way.

Would accusing someone of "virtue signalling" be a personal attack?

What's wrong with thinking he meant what he said, instead of trying to gin up some 'assumption' that he meant something less inane? You know what you do when you "assume", don't you?

One of the more entertaining aspects of the Trump candidacy is watching the contortions that Trumpettes go through to try and reinterpret his constant stream of gaffes, inconsistencies, lies, and general verbal diarrhea into something which they can pretend to support.

Keep up the good work. It's better than The Onion.

Well said. Trump is such a moron he needs interpreters for English.

That the Clinton Foundation was a pay for play.

First of all, that claim remains very much in play, so it is begging the question to insist that it is false with no evidence whatsoever.

More important, however, is that Joy Reid specifically asked David Malpass (who is actually a very smart guy whose economic research I used to read avidly when he was at Bear Stearns) a hypothetical about donating to the Clinton Foundation. She insisted that getting Huma Abedin to email you back in return for a donation was not "pay to play." Malpass said it was more than that, which it was. Donors got real meetings with Hillary. And the emails from Huma Abedin were not just "thank you" emails. Some of her emails involved asking the State Department for certain favors on behalf of donors.

Meanwhile, Joy Reid blew up when Malpass mentioned the email controversy because, she insisted, that controversy was not related to the Clinton Foundation. But that's ridiculous. Of course it's related. Some of the most damaging emails concerning the Clinton Foundation were from the clintonemail.com server which had been kept hidden for over five years. If not for the discovery that Hillary had been running a private email server, we wouldn't have any of Huma Abedin's emails with, e.g. David Band at the Clinton Foundation.
