Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part V

I can recall back in the mid/late 00's I was questioning the purpose of the Iraq war to conservative friends of mine. At the time they swore that WMD had been found, that Saddam was allied with Bin Laden, and that anyone who questioned the war was disrespecting the troops and dishonoring the wounded and killed soldiers.

Now these same people openly support trump who openly questions the purpose of the Iraq war. SMH.

And today,

He 's also falsely claiming he was against the Iraq war from the start again. This is supposed to be his speech on education.

The man is such a God Damn LIAR he makes me sick to my stomach. Your really have to be gullible with ZERO CRITICAL THINKING skills to believe this clown.

I want all you supporters of Donald Trump to ask yourself why anyone with any responsibility or authority would ask a loud mouth TV reality star real estate developer with absolutely NO MILITARY OR INTELLIGENCE experience a damn thing?

They might as well be asking George Clooney, Mark Cuban or the drunk in the curb. Come on, stop taking this ass seriously.

Seriously, if Trump is elected, there will be no end to the United Flakes of America jokes and so on. It will be a **** storm inside a *********** tornado inside a world-of-hurt hurricane. Let's stick to Sharknados on Syfy and skip electing this farce of a person, why don't we?

The average drunk on a curb has grassroots fundraising experience, diplomacy skills and has survived in a hostile tactical environment, which requires grit, guts and determination.

Shots fired by Esquire.

Editor's note: The following story was published in the August 2004 issue of Esquire. During the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed to have been against the Iraq War from the beginning, and he has cited this story as proof. The Iraq War began in March 2003, more than a year before this story ran, thus nullifying Trump's timeline.

Interestingly, people were writing at the time -- including the Atlantic letter quoted in the video -- that Bush was displaying signs of dementia midway into his Presidency.

Interesting.

The guy went through jet training - like Ford being caricatured as clumsy, just saying "Bush was an idiot" is simplistic and off the mark.

Sure did seem to lose his edge towards the end, though.

The idea that Trump knows more than the Generals is so disgustingly absurd that anyone with a brain should go "whoa, who the hell is this clown?" BUT FAR TOO MANY DON'T. You don't become a General without high intelligence and a commitment far above anything you might encounter in the civilian world. The total lack of respect he conveys to these extremely talented people should piss just about anyone off.

Here's an intriguing look at the steps preceding a U.S. nuclear launch. Note that nobody gets to veto the President:
http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/graphics/2016-nuclear-weapon-launch/

Officially, there is no veto, but notice that if every Pentagon adviser refuses to further the order, then nothing is launched.

That is, of course, cold comfort. We couldn't expect unanimity in this case unless the President is obviously deranged[1].

I recently read an article suggesting that Nixon's Secretary of Defense extra-legally put himself in the chain of command near the end of the presidency, when Nixon was drinking heavily. I can't recall the source, but it was the NY Times, the Washington Post or some similarly well-respected paper, as I recall.

The article was motivated by fear of Trump, of course.

[1] E.g., Trump.

Well, obviously, he is referring to the fact that Howard Stern consulted him on the Iraq issue. He's forgotten, of course, his answer, but no matter. He was consulted on the Iraq issue.

What is your problem?

The Secretary of Defense absolutely is in the chain of command and on a day-to-day basis can absolutely issue orders to military personnel.

Admittedly, I have the most prolific Trump supports on ignore, but has anyone responded to my question about how anyone can deny that Trump is lying about being "totally against" the war in Iraq?

ETA: Without referring to Clinton

That claim is not reflected in the chain of command for launching nukes that the previous poster cited.

It doesn't seem to me, given my limited understanding, that the Secretary of Defense can overrule a presidential order to launch nukes, nor do I think that this should be a condition of launching, given the immediacy needed in certain situations.

The whole interview with Stern (a 2:30 minute call in to Stern's show) gives an even worse view of the Donald. His conversation is mostly about the real estate market post 9/11.

The whole point of the nuclear football / biscuit arrangement is that the president can do it quick and (in theory) alone - remember, we have only 12min until those nukes from Russia hit Washington.

The only way to prevent this is not to obey a direct order.

I don't think you understand what "chain of command" or "command" mean in this context.

Chain of command doesn't mean that every order has to filter through every level of the chain of command.

For example, a battalion commander can issue orders to anyone in their battalion. If they do so, it doesn't mean that the company commanders and platoon leaders are no longer in the chain of command, and they would still be in command of their subordinate who was issued the order by the battalion commander. On a practical level, a battalion commander should be filtering orders down through the subordinate commanders but on occasion it might be necessary to jump the chain.

In the case of initiating a nuclear attack, requiring the order to go through the Secretary of Defense would be an unnecessary step and it wouldn't be part of the standard protocol because it's unnecessary and because time would be presumed to be a factor. That does not mean, however, that the Secretary of Defense is not still in the chain of command; s/he can still issue orders, and those orders could only be contradicted by the orders of the President.

This.

When I was in the military, there were many times when I had to give orders directly to soldiers, bypassing their supervisors, for one reason or another. It doesn't negate the chain of command. I was an officer; it's what we did. Doesn't mean that those soldiers' supervisors were any less in charge of them. Similarly, in the chain of command as I understand it, the SECDEF is second-in-command of the military below the President, but the President can talk to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs or any of the Chiefs of Staff of the individual branches without having to go through the SECDEF. If you're at the top, you can speak to anyone you want below you; they however have to follow the chain if they want something to get up to you, usually. There are always exceptions of course.

Does or has anyone you can think of have bigger ego than Trump?

I'm serious about this question. Can you think of any human being living or deceased with a bigger ego than Trump? I've worked with lots of tough powerful arrogant people especially when it comes to their intellect, yet I can't think of a soul who compares to Trump. I've seen some athletes cocky about their athletic ability like Ali, Richard Sherman, Deon Sanders but nobody like Trump.

Can anyone?
