Mother Terisa gets there at last

That of course makes no sense.

Of course it will not to you. Believers have a hard time with the fact that the RCC has only self-interest in mine when it comes to Sainthood and Mother Teresa. She made them tons of money and raising her to demi-god status will make them even more.

What a furiously ridiculous comment.

I cannot believe that anyone of earth has a "hard time" with the fact that the Catholic Church has its own faith in mind when making a Saint of the Roman Catholic Church.

They should have taken the Hitchens fans into account!

Shake my head.

Dead right, and another indication of their self interest is the way they have tried to sweep the child sex abuse stuff under the carpet. All intended to protect the good name of mother church.

Which according to certain skeptics Churchill would have been better off leaving hitler alone and tacking down a diminutive Albanian nun.

Chris did not "like" scotch. He loved it. He probably though that Catholics were contemptible, but he "hated" them. See the first modern genocide: the Irish starvation of the mid nineteenth century.

Not atypical for upper class Brits.

I doubt that Chris hated Catholics. Like me I think he just considered them as victims of this vile church.

Wow, Hitchens blatantly plagerized that article.

Damn.

Is it still "ridiculous"? Do you still believe it to be an invention of Hitchens'? Or do you accept that she actually said it?

And, as you say, it was posters here who have provided citations. Since I can't ask Pope Francis for citations, I'm asking you. Can you provide any? Or is it only points that you don't want to believe true that you require citations for?

You worship a god who is so unimpressive he needs hoards of saints (demi gods) to bring to his attention the sufferings of his people on Earth. And even then he only acts to give comfort or to save a miniscule portion of those believers who do suffer. To paraphrase Inigo Montoya "You use the word omnipotent/omniscient/caring/just - I do not think you know what this word means!"

It's a miracle that someone with her track record would be canonized. Which, I suppose, proves that she's a real saint. :D

That canonisation decision in full -

Does your legacy generate cash money?

Yes? Congratulations, you're sat at god's right hand

No? Sorry, you'll soon be forgotten

Going into the faith, is it your assertion that her words are not in parity with Catholicism?

"I think it is very beautiful for the poor to accept their lot, to share it with the passion of Christ. I think the world is being much helped by the suffering of the poor people."

Is this sentiment not one shared by many in that faith? Is it somehow a mangled lie? What part of it strikes you as suspect such that you require chapter and verse on its source?

I asked this to check that what Teresa was quoted as saying was at least within Catholic thought. If it's wildly wrong, then it can be worth criticising Hitchens for it — and/or his sources.

If not, then it stands damning as stated.

I suspect that Hitchens had no illusions about the vile woman becoming a Saint. He probably would have found it darkly comic that the RCC went ahead in the face of so much evidence of her cruelty.

She brought in the big dollars, that is all that matters, they don't actually want that money wasted on helping the poor.

And now the "donations" nonsense, another libel started by St Chris of the Still Pot, a very comfortable First World anti-Catholic fanatic viciously assaulting a woman who gave up everything to live in abject poverty among the Untouchables.

there were over five thousand Missionary of Charity sisters, serving in 766 houses in 137 countries, and another 377 active brothers serving in sixty-eight houses in twenty-one countries. The Lay Missionaries of Charity, now twenty-five years old, are also growing, operating in fifty countries.

I will take the sudden avoidance of the subject as a tacit acknowledgement that TBD can no longer deny that Theresa said what was attributed to her, and that s/he cannot provide any citations to back up the earlier quoted claim by Pope Francis.

I will also note the irony of someone who accuses someone who quoted without attribution of plagiarism then quoting without attribution, as well as the irony of someone who railed against someone quoting without citation then quoting without citation.

Lolz.

Sorry, now what are you on about? Did Chris plagiarize? It certainly appears so, because his miserable little pamphlet contains no citation to that WaPo article he seems to have lifted it from.

As far as the "quote" I have yet to see the context. In isolation, it makes zero sense at all, because we all know that Saint Teresa spent her life attending to the poor.

Fr. Leo Maasburg, an Austrian priest who was Mother Teresa’s close personal friend and spiritual advisor and the author of a moving portrait of her, told me that the idea that Blessed Teresa loved poverty rather than poor people was “a diabolical twisting” of her actual beliefs, which were “to help the poor and suffering to the utmost.”

The fact that you have done exactly what you seem to think it unconscionable that Hitchens did.

Then I suggest reading the article from which you say it is plagiarised.

Face palm on every single level.

Do me a favor, look at the WaPo article (which didn't have context) and compare it to Chris's Missionary Position (gag) pamphlet and make up your own mind as to whether they are similar.

protip: they are.

What information, in your opinion, does that article not have that you would need in order to feel that the quote is in context?
