If those hats are saying "let's end illegal immigration so that migrants will be forced to change their country's system from within," that's a semi-legitimate argument some have made. But I don't think Trump has been making that argument; he has instead pandered to xenophobia.

Remittances might really help things improve in Mexico, though. U.S. capital flowing into Mexican markets unfiltered by sticky-fingered middlemen may help more Mexicans build things, start businesses, educate their children etc. These are the remittances Trump wants to illegalize the better to extort the the Mexican government into coughing up $10 billion.

He's also playing on the belief that somehow Mexico sends people to the U.S.

I'm torn because I think Trump did make a conciliatory gesture. I give him credit for that. Yet I want that gesture to cost him - I want his core to get the message that Trump is in reality softer than the image he's been marketing. I think the trip made him look stronger, actually, but I'd like to see him lose some hard-core haters.
 
Wow. Just saw the highlights. Has anyone assured that Kellyanne Conway isn't near an open window on a high floor? Bannon/Coulter in the ascendency. Absolutely. He's going to go down, but he's going to go down swinging at the same bad pitches that won him the Republican nomination.

The un-pivot is complete.

Oh, I had every faith that he is who he appeared to be for the past year. I was more concerned that he would follow the advice of the one pro on his team and continue to try to mask that. He could've come out of Mexico pretending to be semi-reasonable. I think that's the cause of his slithering up in a few polls. People who wanted to be convinced were saying, "See? That doesn't sound so unreasonable."

My chief bellwether of whether he helped or harmed himself is the Hannity Test. Sean loved it and Sean's the worst judge of the public's sentiments in the history of mankind.
