Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part IV

I read the full article. No teleprompter. Just winging it for 90 minutes, the fraudster is going to get crushed.

She could start out by reminding folks that there will be a lot of "facts" (with big air quotes) coming out of Donald and she won't have the time to correct them all, and while she hopes the moderators will correct a few that isn't really their only job tonight, but the voters can check the internet in the morning to see how many of his "facts" are connected in any way to reality. I have to trust that you can see who is lying to you and who isn't.

This basically writes the next morning's stories for every newspaper and morning news show. And, it puts the burden on the viewer to do their own research. It won't convince the die-hard trumps, but it may work on the small slice of undecideds. And it will keep her base happy.

Reading about the debate preparations sounds eerily like a boxing match.
Presidential debates should ideally be about issues, but this will be all about personality.

Maybe we should have the Intelligence Squared setup after all.

You say that as if it will be enough to keep him from being elected.

He won't be elected and it's not my wishful thinking.

What you and some others might be overlooking is, voters rarely if ever go for revolutionary change. I said the same thing about Sanders. People didn't believe it, but I was right. Sanders was too big of a step for the majority of the voters to go for. When it comes down to it, much as people complain and much as Trump and Sanders have a solid following, the average voter isn't willing to disrupt the status quo by a leap, steps yes, but a leap makes them too nervous.

Don't have a high opinion of American Voters, don't you?

Given the small gap between them, no, I don't. Any sensible American should be terrified of having Trump in office, yet over 40% of the voting public seems to think he's a keen idea. While the Democratic option is hardly overwhelming, the fact that so many voting Americans honestly think Trump is the better option makes me despair for the future of Democracy. It really is mob rule, and the mob appears to be regressing.

Donald had proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that a huge percentage of Americans are stupid, crazy bigots.

Not a high enough percentage for him to win though.

Do you really think it is better elsewhere? How do you think people like Hitler happened? Democracy is to a degree "mob rule". But we have rules that theoretically prevent the majority from abusing that power.

I think a decent percentage of that 40% is not "keen" on Donald, but think he is better then Hilary. I think they are totally wrong, but I can understand not liking Hilary a lot.
And if you are right, what would you replace Democracy with?
Probably a system that would weed out "those who are unfit to be voters". Which 90% of the time means "Those who don't agree with me".
I get a whiff of the Inner Party Sneering at the Stupid Proles a lot of the time here.....

You're not reassuring me.

No, I don't think it's necessarily better elsewhere. I'm just despairing over the fact that we appear to be seeing the answer to the Fermi paradox played out in this presidential election.

“The sky calls to us. If we do not destroy ourselves, we will one day venture to the stars.” - Carl Sagan

I don't think we're venturing to the stars, especially if Donald Trump gets his hands on the US military.

The Trump campaign has a ground-game problem

As the presidential election marathon breaks into a final sprint, the Trump campaign faces a jaw-dropping gap in the ground game: Hillary Clinton currently has more than three times the number of campaign offices in critical states than does Donald Trump.

The contrast is a test for the conventional campaign model and points to the candidates’ stark differences in methods. Clinton is cleaving to the data-driven, on-the-ground machine that won two elections for Barack Obama. Trump, on the other hand, insists he does not need traditional campaign tactics to win the election, pointing to his overwhelming nomination victory achieved with a relatively small team and little spending.

Nevertheless, the ground game is poised to be critical in 2016. Undecided voters are becoming scarce, and targeted turnout may be the deciding factor on Nov. 8. That usually requires field offices with phone banks, organized volunteers and a coordinated effort to knock on doors and get people to the polls.

I think this might easily cause Donald to lose by more than the polls indicate.

I'm not sure of the source, but I've seen the claim that, in general, 40% of voters would vote for a moldy sandwich if it had an "R" after it's name, and another 40% would vote for an old shoe if it had a "D" after it's name. It's the remaining 20% that decide the election.

I think the only viable long term option is educating and uplifting humanity as a whole. If 80% are educated enough to realize fascism is a bad idea then the 20% who might go with it are going to have a harder time uplifting the next Hitler. Given the current state of our education system however and the lack of political momentum to improve things, I don't see us making any massive strides forward anytime soon.

Good boys who to their books apply,
Will all be great men by and bye:
For true it is on Nature's plan,
That education makes the man

Looking at the economics and demographics of the Trump supporters I think the problem crosses class and economic boundaries. There may be preponderances in the Trump movement, but those preponderances are more an artifact of his rhetoric than an identifying feature of the problem.

Clinton asks ‘Art of the Deal’ ghostwriter how to rattle Trump in debates

Hillary Clinton’s advisers are talking to Donald Trump’s ghostwriter of “The Art of the Deal,” seeking insights about Trump’s deepest insecurities as they devise strategies to needle and undermine him in four weeks at the first presidential debate, the most anticipated in recent political history.

At the risk of being too meta, one of the best ways to upset Trump is to publicly announce that you are looking for the best ways to upset Trump.

He describes himself as a hard-hitting fighter, but he is far too touchy to be a hard-hitting fighter.

The total lack of interest in the Ground Game is why Many GOP professionals politicos have already written off 2016. And it is simply too late to make up the gap;it takes at least four weeks to get a ground game organized and another four before it is functioning at a decent level.

One office in Florida! Two in Pennsylvania! Both states where Donald basically has to win to have a shot.

I'm not trying to. I worry all the time that this experiment with democracy is fragile and can come to an end with someone like Trump. Remember, Hitler was elected.

I can't really imagine seeing it that way.
