Ed Melania Trump was an illegal immigrant?

And? How would you propose to resolve this?

Resolve it? Why resolve it? To the extent they dig up actual news, it's great. Failing that, it's still entertaining. That's all my comment was about - how entertaining the phrase was because of the cloak and dagger imagery it evoked.

Trump dumped on them and turnabout is fair play. The nastier the better. I find it ironic that Trump's wife and immigration should sow the seeds for the scandal, but what the heck, it is what it is. Ironic on two fronts - Trump against current immigration policies and Univision a foreign-based news organization purported to be concerned with immigrant rights.

Why? Many media organisations have investigative divisions? I know real investigative journalism is dying in the USA but it's not quite dead yet.

Yes, but how many media organizations are made up of "swarthy Hispanics"?

I'm afraid that in Marplot's desire to be an edgy devil's advocate, he has taken on the guise of a plain, ol' racist.

Oh, it's even better. He describes it as a "foreign-based news organization," despite the fact that its headquarters is in New York City and its programming is intended to be viewed by people in the United States! :boggled:

Swarthy isn't a pejorative and Hispanic isn't a race. I may be racist, but I'd do a better job of it than that.

I've never met a pygmy. I bet I could hate those little suckers.

Let's not confuse the narrative by injecting facts.

This is pure gold:

Melania and her bio states that she arrived in USA in 1996.

Unfortunately, the nude photos published by NYP show that she was working in USA in 1995, which would make her an illegal immigrant, since she did not have a work visa at the time.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11688168

The only question is, was she paid to get her gear off for the nude shoot?

If so, she was illegal. She has already clearly lied when claiming to have arrived in '96.

Yes, if she was here on a tourist or other non-work Visa and she did perform work in the USA, she broke immigration law.

There's a claim circulating now that she wasn't paid. That's bound to be BS. The pics were published in Max magazine [France] Jan 1996 according to Wiki.

Well, lots of models work for free, especially for nude pictorials. It's the charitable nature of the profession that attracts these extremely beautiful women to it...and to rich old men.

I don't think that whether or not Melania Trump had a valid visa when those pictures were taken should have any bearing on the election campaign. Donald Trump was not in a relationship with her at the time and very probably had no knowledge of the whole business. Heck, even she may not have been aware that what she was doing was breaking immigration law.

There are so many other things to take Trump to task over, I think to do this is a bush league move.

Is Trump in a relationship with all the current illegal immigrants he's been going on about? So they're none of his business?

It doesn't matter if she was an illegal immigrant or not. Since she doesn't have brown skin, Trump's supporters won't give a cupcake's cream.

That doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. Trump has taken an anti-illegal immigrant stance and one with which I profoundly disagree but what do we expect him to do when he finds out that his wife of 11 years had some photographs taken 21 years ago when she didn't have a suitable work permit ?

If we expect him to suddenly change his policy that would make no sense. Even if he suddenly had a road to Damascus moment, it's still a policy that plays well to the GOP.

Expecting his to disown his wife is equally unrealistic. The events happened 10 years before their wedding and probably well before he knew her. He is not responsible for her actions at the time and IMO it's realistic to assume that he was unaware of them right up until the time when the story broke.

Are we instead just going to brand him a hypocrite because he's anti-illegal immigrant and yet he's married to someone who broke immigration rules ? That would only make sense if he knew at the time of his marriage that this was the case. That's like criticising someone who has a strong anti-drug stance if their spouse had been known to use drugs from time to time at college but had never told the candidate.

US xenophobes are evidently much more liberal than their UK counterparts.

The Brexiteers here are enormously exercised about Polish and other E European EU immigrants, and racist attacks on these ethnic groups, white though their skins be, have risen significantly.

I expect that once again, Melania Trump is getting her life mixed up with the life of Michelle Obama.

After all, Melania did lift a good bit of her speech from Michelle: therefore since Michelle was in the USA legally at the time when Melinia she did those nude photos, so by the same token, Melania believes that she was in the USA legally at that time when she did those nude photos.
