This posts demonstrate why Trump and you don't get it. What Trump is doing and you continue to do is show a dearth of empathy and of being way out of touch. I've seen a very small number of antiwar protesters on the far left show a similar lack of empathy for what Lincoln called the last full measure of devotion.

Call it politically correct if you want, but there are some things you do not do. And this may be first among those.

Well, it is political correctness, albeit sourced from the very small number of taboos on the conservative side of the aisle. Of course, it's particularly hypocritical for Democrats to be indulging in this, which is why so much of the outrage rings hollow.

Are we to refrain from challenging anything a family member of a dead soldier says? Or even any soldier? How about the family member of a dead policeman? If the media actually decided to look, do you have any idea how many white supremacists could be counted among the family members of dead soldiers? I guarantee you it's a lot more than the number of family members of dead soldiers who are Muslims who claim that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam. Would you concede their moral authority to determine which candidate is unqualified to hold office, or to spout off nonsense and logical fallacies? I doubt it.

Attacking the parents of a fallen soldier is something YOU NEVER EVER EVER DO. Trump and now you seem oblivious to this. Nothing you can say justifies it.

Sorry. They're not off limits, especially if they enthusiastically play the part of attack dog. I already find the reverence with which politicians and the media treat soldiers to be nauseating. It's part of the reward for attracting people to do the job I suppose (and it is a job), but I certainly don't have to buy into the mythology. And in my experience, most liberals buy into it even less than I do. Which makes their current outrage look emphatically faux.

You think this is the first time the parents of a fallen soldier, officer or rescue worker have lashed out against a political leader? Not even close. Hillary was similarly attacked by the mother of woman who lost her son at Ben Ghazzi. She didn't attack the woman. No, instead she showed empathy for her. It's what you do because there is nothing you can say.

********. Her sympathy was completely disingenuous and back-handed. It's amazing how shallow liberals can be. Yes, Trump is crude and obvious, but Hillary making subtle digs is far worse in my opinion. She has implied that Patricia Smith is a liar (despite ample corroborating evidence to the contrary), but she has couched it as understandable confabulation due to the emotional stress. That is, well, that poor lady has suffered such a trauma that she's lost her marbles. I feel so much pity for her. Yup, that's really heartfelt sympathy.

Beyond the classlessness and total lack of empathy. Trump's attack was monumentally stupid and so is defending it. That was a no win situation for Trump as it is for you. You're defending the indefensible.

No win for me? Huh? I rather enjoy it when people attack me without logical coherence whatsoever. It reinforces my view that I'm right and that the other side has nothing. All you guys can do is stamp your feet in impotent frustration. What are you going to do? Tell everybody what a terrible meanie sunmaster14 is to a Gold Star father?

Trump just turned what was an electrifying moment at the DNC and turned it into what may end up being the defining moment of the election. Trump Swift boated himself.

You can bet the Clinton campaign reaction to watching him attack the Khans went from shock to outright giddiness. Why not just hand them the election on a silver platter? I'd bet that they are already running ads with the Khans and Trump's attack along with comments from Republicans and soldiers and their familiess.

Trump wasn't just being politically incorrect, he was being monumentally obtuse.

Who really wants someone like that to be President?

We shall see. I think a backlash will develop. Just as backlashes developed in response to all of the other politically incorrect things Trump has done. People are sick and tired of being told what kind of speech is off-limits, and I suspect that this episode will prove to be yet another example of that.

I'm rabidly liberal, on many issues, and own guns, as do many Democrats. I enlisted twice, at 18 into Reagan's USAF and twenty years later into my state's Army National Guard.

A man who wants the right, authority and power to send American soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines to die needs all the moral authority he can muster. You don't say ****** things about gold star moms. You just don't. She sent her tiny precious baby boy to die for you, personally. Have some respect.

Gold star families are pissed.

Well, I completely disagree with this sentiment. And this is ridiculous.

Eleven? Out of 6685 such families for soldiers killed since 9/11? I read that as only a teensy, weensy minority of Gold Star families are willing to taint their status as patriots by getting involved in a partisan smear campaign.

A common human trait is to reluctantly admit you're wrong. Republicans kick it up a couple of notches and pretty much never do. You'll get walls of text, pathetic attempts at humor, but wrong? Never.

At least the democrats put the family of a hero instead of a loser who couldn't even keep his charge safe like the republicans did.

The sacrifices soldiers and families of soldiers make for you, personally, is like the endless, unconditional love of Jesus - they don't ask your permission, they don't give a **** if you care or not, they just do it anyway because they care.

Well, John McCain just tore Trump a new *******. There's backlash, and there's virtually every leader of your own party reminding us daily how big a piece of trash Trump is.

Do you understand the difference between not being Politically Correct, and being an *******?? No you don't. You wouldn't.

George Carlin wasn't politically correct, yet he managed to not disparage the military and their sacrifices, correct?

I guess I would have to agree with you on this.

Yea politically incorrect is pointing out how most Mexicans are rapists. The truth everyone knows but can't talk about because the PC police will accuse them of being racist.

Partisan.

There's a new word you don't know the definition of I see.

Most Mexican's aren't rapists. That's not a truth, that's a wimp's way out of having an honest discussion. A coward's way out.

That is the not PC things that people like that Trump says. What is your example of a polite but not PC thing?

I am beginning to wonder if Trump has yet realized that if he does win in the upcoming election, then President Trump will be Commander-in-Chief of the nation’s armed forces and that the President is always very dependent upon the US military.

However, candidate Trump is making it more and more difficult for him to obtain the support and loyalty of the US military considering all of the current and former people in the US military that he has managed to tick off over the last several months.

It's how you do it. You can show you disagree with out being moronic about it. Trump could have said that he felt for these parents and respect their sacrifice, but that we do not want to import the troubles from the Middle East to the US.

Please, please, please. Keep attacking the parents of a fallen soldier. Run TV ads. Do it right up to November and see how disastrous this election will be.

Phoney is better than cruel.

We will see, I'm betting that Trump will be down another 5 points in 10 days. Clinton's 5 point lead will be 10. And you'll still be thinking that Trump's reaction was right. But remember my words. When the story of this election is told in the future, many historians will say that this is the moment Trump lost whatever chance he may have had.

I can't help but think of Roy Cohn and history repeating itself. The moments two politicians of different eras went too far. Cohn, the link between the two, a lawyer for both of them.

If you hadn't guessed, I am referring to Tail Gunner Joe and the Orange Buffoon.

This is an echo of when Joseph Welch said to Joseph McCarthy

"Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency."

The same questions are being asked of Trump.
