Sometimes Obama gets it right (apologizes to slighted Marine guard)

I didn't chuckle but I did have a WTF moment.

Perhaps that shows what a bubble you live in. I am a close observer of Obama, and I completely agree with Ziggurat. Sure, Obama's not as crude and overt, or perhaps as farcical, as Trump, but I think he's in the same league as far as being a petulant narcissist.

If that were true, they wouldn't salute the president, but they do.

While not the most pressing item of news on the docket, it's far from "nothingburger" to see him get something right for once when it comes to showing respect.

I am a former military officer. The president should follow the same rules a military officer does when out of uniform and not salute.

The presidents have not been taught when and how to do it properly and should just skip it. Even the ones that are veterans have been a bit sloppy at it. It looks foolish.

You Republicans are clearly the ones who live in a bubble.

Ummm, Tony, Sumaster just said that Obama is a terrible crazy person, but Trump is even worse. Think about that. The best thing one of the leading conservatives here can say about Trump is that he's only a little bit worse than Obama.

I see am intelligent, humane man well aware of the limitations of his presidency. he knows that even by simply appealing for calm and a rational response to shootings that he is going to be attacked and loathed while being completely misrepresented. He faces a hostile congress and Senate that would rather burn down the country than let him function as president.

Okay, I give up. What is are some examples of Obama's more nuanced and subtle, perhaps more dramatic, thin-skinned narcissism, oh close observer of Obama, that puts him in the same petulant narcissist league as Donald J. Trump?

Yep. And "he hates the military!!!"

My thought is if the president were to do it with proper humility, of "As a civilian, I am not worthy to participate in this military custom", would that deter some criticism? Although I'm sure it would be interpreted as a slap against St. Reagan, which might be the biggest objection.

But would actual military people complain?

I would love to see this happen, but I'm not expecting it. I don't know if anyone could pull it off, whether they use your reasoning or any argument thereof.

I would like to see it happen in order to deemphasize the role of President as military commander. There was a reason that the founding fathers thought it important for a civilian to be in control of the military. For one thing, they were all educated in classical history. They knew what happened when some fellow name Caesar, who was a general, took over the government.

He's not a conservative. That's all that is needed.

I am guessing the stock answer - all the evidence has been posted numerous times in multiple threads, you just have to read it. And at at any rate it's too much work for no reward because you would probably just ignore all the evidence anyway.

But maybe I'll be surprised. Just not gonna hold my breath.

I was expecting something along the lines of: "He thinks he's better than everyone because he is doing things only presidents should do."

I will admit that I didn't expect dead silence.

I miss the days when the biggest Presidential scandal anyone could come up with was "not returning a salute."
