Tonight is the great pumpkin's coronation speech. How much of it does he dedicate to topics other than Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz and how much he loves himself?

Why isn't Sarah Palin at the convention? Did Donald decide that she is too crazy and tell her to stay away?

No, Alaska is too far away and that makes it hard for her to get there.

(I'm serious, that is the reason Trump gave)

Looked it up. You can take a red-eye from Anchorage to Chicago and then hop to Cleveland for about $1000 round trip. How could she ever handle it?

That's a rough trip. It's not like flying from Texas to Alaska while in labor.

So Republicans were demanding to know why Cruz won't endorse Donald. Because Donald attacked his father and wife says Cruz. Duh.

And Cruz says Donald knew 3 days before that he wouldn't endorse.

I expect this is all theater. Cruz can beat his chest in front of his constituents. Trump will apologize for his disparaging of Cruz's family (maybe tonight), making a show of his humanity and compassion and family values and reasonableness. Cruz will accept the apology and give Trump his endorsement. And the Cruz folks will fall in line.

Tada.

That's level skill and competence that doesn't appear to exist within the campaign. There is visceral hatred between the two camps that won't smooth over that easily. Cruz doing that would end what is left of his political career.

Disagree. They would both get exactly want they want. Trump gets Cruz's endorsement and Cruz voters. Plus he gets to add some normal humanity to his bizarre campaign. Cruz one-ups all his competitors who fell in line even after all the Trump attacks. Cruz just explained saying he was not some servile puppy dog: a beautiful back-handed attack on his competitors. And if Trump uses the charged word 'forgiveness', Cruz's christian conservative base knows he has no choice but to forgive. He has to.

It's the art of the deal. :)

The same Art of the Deal that was a ghost writer's fabrication of him. He's going to keep attacking Cruz because unlike the myth of Donald that has been created, he really is just a petulant child wearing his opinions and emotions on his sleeve.

What do you think Trump's speech will be like?

I'm going to say he will mostly read from the teleprompters a speech which is very long on make America great platitudes and short (non-existent) on specifics. I don't think he will go to the extremes to vilify HRC. I don't expect the over the top hyperbole or bombastic rhetoric we've seen to this point.

If he does that, I predict the media will go nuts. He will be portrayed as "presidential" and in one speech will (in some minds) erase a years worth of insanity.

I also suspect within a couple of weeks he'll be back to his old self.

We'll see. If they stay at odds over it, I would say it's an issue of principles (or just power-playing). If they reconcile (like tonight) it was all planned-out theater.

This is a very apt scenario if there were sensible people involved. We're talking Donald Trump and his Dick Dynasty reality show. Their instinct is to get even. Purportedly they've already threatened to sic a couple of talk radio jockeys on him and threatened to crush him if he didn't come around.

The best theater, for Trump and the party would be if they made nice-nice, but it won't happen. Trump does not compromise, is never wrong and would never say well I'll apologize if you apologize. Ain't gonna happen, so I can rest in my knowledge that they will consider to gnaw at the carcass of the GOP.

The smart theater would be that since he cannot possible pull off the above, he just moves on and doesn't mention it. I'm pretty sure that ain't gonna happen either.

Donald is incapable of apologizing.

If I've learned anything about him from all this, it's that Trump will never, ever apologize for anything, no matter how grievous the faux pas was or how advantageous a trace of humility might be. Attack. Attack. Attack.

So I agree that's what he should do, but no way in hell is it happening. He couldn't even admit to his wife cribbing a line in her speech: it wasn't true and it wasn't a big deal and it was someone else's fault anyway and he was willing to make every mouthpiece he had insist on it.
