I disagree. He read the speech and it sounded fine.. Nobody expects the boss to have a memory of other speeches.

This the the Repubican Party Convention for President of the entire frigging US. All it takes is running the text of every planned speech through a text analysis tool like college teachers use. Boom, headshot: controversy preempted.

But instead they're just winging it, totally letting the Convention get dragged off message.

Amateurs.

The candidate's wife using a lifted passage isn't something that should drag the convention off message. Chattering heads in the media will mention it because plagiarism is a death sentence in their world but it doesn't take over the conventions message. Using every staffer and surrogate to deny the reality that it was plagiarized is what did that. Donald created a crisis for his campaign when none existed and that's a dreadful sales pitch to be the next POTUS.

ETA: It is a good thing for the campaign that it blocked some of the coverage the, "Up with racism! Down with due process!" message that's being delivered on stage is getting.

Whoever booked Third Eye Blind should have seen that coming. Last GOP convention they blew off a similar invitation to play along with an explanation of why in Huff Po.

I would find what they did to be kinda unprofessional without the context that they brutally shot down the '12 invite and were somehow invited again. That's like Colbert WH Correspondent Dinner level poor booking.

I'm surprised that they even invited the band to play. Isn't the usual policy to just play a band's music without their permission and then deal with the cease-and-desist letter when it arrives?

It was for a party after the convention was done for the day.

He shouldn't have to do that. I'm sure he has a million things to do. It's unreasonable for him to have the expectation that it might be plagiarized.

Maybe I've been living under a rock, but the speakers at this convention seem more over the top than of any I've ever heard. I bet after the election, we're going to see some interesting analysis of how this level of vitriol influenced the undecided voter. My guess is the insane lengths of some of the speakers - speaking from the stage of the GOP convention and so seen as speaking FOR the GOP - are going to drive the undecided voters in exactly the opposite direction than the speakers hope.

Assuming that the DNC convention is able to keep its **** together.

Looking into it, it seems like this was a charity concert near the RNC convention, not actually a part of it.

The DNC just needs to talk about their message for the country and the policies they are proposing to enact it. Allow some jabs at Donald in jokes but don't dominate your convention with speeches about hatred of your opponent. Keep it simple and have a positive message.

This stuff is seriously starting to drive me crazy.

I'm thinking I'll just write-in Groot.

He who? Trump himself personally? This is the campaign for President of the entire *********** United States, they should have teams of people in charge of teams of people checking every piece of Convention content for really basic stuff like accidental gaffs and really obvious freshman-in-college-copying-Wikipedia level text checking.

These people are total amateurs in the political arena. This isn't a beauty pageant. And they're not listening to the few experts they have.

In working with Melania Trump on her recent First Lady speech, we discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the American people. A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speeches. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant.

Wow, the whole campaign from manafort to christie look like giant *********** idiots for spending the entire day denying the passages were plagiarized yesterday.

What a dysfunctional campaign.

Just WTF ....

Two dorks with the mindset of teenage girls collaborated on a Wikipedia-researched in-class-project quality speech that was then read, without oversight or prechecking by anyone in charge, in front of God and national television.

That is not how one administers the United States.

Do you suppose God was chuckling? I bet he chuckled.
