Rickrolls appear in numerous speeches because it's a beautifully clichéd platitude. If you don't know to check for it, it's a lazy crutch to go to. They didn't have anyone review the speech after it was completed and their response turned an oops into a message consuming blunder. On the other hand Donald loves to encourage infighting to get better results out of employees and this has caused his staff to trip over each other trying to be the first to leak things. Nothing that leaks from the campaign is confirmed by just a single source. Could a bitter employee have sabotaged the speech knowing that the campaign is too lazy to review it? Completely plausible.

There would have to be a mole very near the top to do these kinds of things. It's not impossible, but rank incompetence is the more economical explanation.

For a while yes. I think that's part of the emotional instability we're seeing. So many seemed convinced (or at least constantly told) that Obama would be the end of america. How many times did Glen Beck say it? And now, not only have we survived him, we're about to sail into 4 more years under a Democrat.

I just hope they can have their tantrums and get it all out of their system (nonviolently) and then try to get a sane, true conservative on the ticket next time.

This was supposed to be the year with the "loaded" field of candidates for President and bing bong bing the racism and idiocy carried the day. The party has to be afraid that at least 35% of their base is a lock for an openly racist candidate. That's an easy path for a lazy candidate that wants the nomination.

The thing that still scares me is that we started the GOP debates with, what, like 12 people on the stage? So out of the 12 most likely people to secure a GOP presidential nomination, Trump was the best? That says to me they may be a long ways from coming up with another viable candidate after Trumps goes.
