Donald Trump's wife literally gave a speech that was plagiarized from a speech delivered by Michelle Obama and written by Hillary's former speech writer.

Sometimes I jump to a spot in a thread without having seen the news, and think, "Wait. No way. This can't be true, can it?"

Now I'm going to have to look this up.

If Trump's team has a brain, they should be tossing someone out of a window right now so they can make the morning news shows with "That aide, who needless to say is no longer with us,...."

They really don't have an option. They can't do the Donald Double-Down; it's obviously plagiarized. The fact that it was a speech on the same topic, by a presumptive nominees wife is just telltale laziness. They can't claim she didn't say what we have tape of her saying, they can't claim that "it's not all that similar", but they can't blame Melania or Donald so have to admit that she didn't write her own words, but was handed them by a party stooge who had so little respect for her and Donald and the public, that he/she figured no one would notice.

I think, like in Mockinjay, maybe they should have a public execution to distract people.

Is it too much to hope for that it was written by Manafort? Maybe one of his direct appointees?

Both Obamas were known to write large portions of speeches and heavily edit prepared speeches so it could Michelle's own words or the speech writer's. Either way, that's an own goal by Donald's campaign.

They clearly had someone reviewing speeches as Wisconsin Sheriff David Clarke used referred to Hillary Clinton by her name and not as Mrs. Bill Clinton and used Black Lives Matter instead of Black Lies Matter. Journalists from Wisconsin were surprised because he never does that.

It was a nothing night and a nothing speech, only interesting, initially, in that it was a discordant note in a night devoted to Benghazi/Hillary/Benghazi/Obama/Benghazi/Hillary. They were preaching to their choir, and anyone who's read even one 16.5 thread has heard the litany. Nothing new, no converts, nothing to even interest the news shows. And they delivered up a mini-scandal. It'll keep the networks entertained for about twelve more hours.

At this point a story like this doesn't even make me blink anymore. I hear that parts of Melania's speech were lifted from Michelle's and I think, yeah that's par for the course. Not the first speech or Op-Ed or even campaign slogan Trump and Co. cribbed from someone else.
