I've watched at least 60 percent of every Republican and Democratic National Convention for almost 50 years and yet I don't think I can bear to watch this one.

On serious note. The Guardians' Ben Jacobs is reporting that at least 11 states have signed on to force a floor vote today on the minority report from the rules committee. Negotiations last night fell apart on rules. Could be an open revolt from the delegates.

Chaos already. Voice vote was declared by the chair to be "Aye" but sounded pretty even. Roll call shot down, chair couldn't wait to get off the stage. Apparently this was an effort by Cruz supporters to require closed primaries for 2020.

2016 Republican Convention Chaos

The GOP convention is quickly devolving into chaos. The never trump folks submitted a petition to reject the rules that were decided last week as these rules bound delegates to vote for trump on a first ballot. The chairperson quickly read the petition and dismissed it via a controversial voice call. The delegates began chanting for a roll call vote and the entire Colorado delegation has walked out in protest.

According to senior convention official: Washington, Iowa, Virginia, DC, Minnesota, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Maine signed rule 39 petition. Reported that Iowa and DC withdrew but that still leaves the 7 required. Crooked Donald had the convention rigged.

ETA: Now seeing that as being reported as withdrew from convention not petition. Colorado has also withdrawn and Alaska, Maine and Minnesota are reported to as well. Whoa!

Well so far it's been the calm, genteel affair we all expected:

Donald Trump's allies have hit out at the senior Republicans who are staying away from the party's annual convention now under way in Cleveland.

Ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich called the Bush family "childish" while Mr Trump's top aide said Ohio Governor John Kasish was "petulant".

The nomination of Mr Trump has been a source of conflict in the party.

And there were attempts on the convention's opening day to "unbind" delegates from supporting him.

A request by Republicans opposed to Trump to force a full vote on the convention rules was refused, causing brief uproar.

Poor wording on my part. I don't get why the RNC was against the roll call vote despite clear evidence those calling for it met their burden. If Donald did his job, he shouldn't have trouble getting 1237 votes to uphold the rules.

I don't think any republican in Colorado cares what the Colorado delegates do, since the Colorado GOP cancelled the caucuses and just chose Cruz with no public participation.
