Hey Georgia it's 2016 not 1916.

A Georgia lawmaker is bizarrely trying to rebrand the Ku Klux Klan.

Georgia State Rep. Tommy Benton, a Republican, claims the KKK isn't a racist terrorist organization but nothing more than "a vigilante thing to keep law and order," as part of his latest effort to preserve the South's history.

Benton made the inflammatory remarks in light of a new bill, introduced Wednesday, which he co-sponsored that would preserve the Stone Mountain site in Georgia, where Confederate leaders are carved onto the side of a rock and where the KKK launched a rebirth in 1915.

In defense of my state, we have a good chance of turning blue this year.

There's going to a number of articles written with the topic, "Is America Becoming More Liberal," in response to Donald crashing and burning that fail to take into account that he's a uniquely bad candidate. If it was a generic R, like Kasich, would the same be true?

Atlanta has one of the highest minority populations (in terms of both absolute number and percentage) in the country. Behind only Washington D.C., if memory serves. Additionally, there is a fairly large LGBT community here and plenty of educated white voters.

On the other side of the coin, the suburbs have a fair number of conservative-radio indoctrinated republicans, and we've got lots of rural lands filled with God fearin' 'muricans who vote red.

In my opinion, Kasich/Ryan/McCain/Romney would win easily. Cruz would probably even win Georgia.

But can't we say this about much of the country this cycle? Hillary really wouldn't stand much of a chance against a normal republican candidate.

Donald solved a number of problems for the Democrats this cycle. "Bernie or Bust" or a return of the "PUMAs" had Bernie got the nomination would have hurt them because it's hard to motivate for base to go out for anything short of the perfect candidate for a third term. Being able to point at Donald and say do you want this to happen is something that wouldn't work with Kasich/Ryan/McCain/Romney being on the target.

That sounds pretty historical to me. It may not be the history we want to remember, but maybe that's why we should.

Oh, for those not in the know, it was for, not against, the Klan and the filthy ******* eating ***** that made up it's membership. And they were a bunch of members indeed!!!! !

Dedicated to Representive Benton:

MARCHING THROUGH GEORGIA:

Bring the good old bugle, boys, we'll sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it, 50,000 strong[N 1]
While we were marching through Georgia.

Chorus
Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee![N 2]
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 2
How the darkeys shouted when they heard the joyful sound
How the turkeys gobbled which our commissary found
How the sweet potatoes even started from the ground
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 3
Yes and there were Union men who wept with joyful tears,
When they saw the honored flag they had not seen for years;
Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers,
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 4
"Sherman's dashing Yankee boys will never reach the coast!"
So the saucy rebels said and 'twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Georgia.

Verse 5
So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
Sixty miles in latitude, three hundred to the main;
Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Georgia.
