The average party member of either party ,frankly, does not know very much about the local county organization. I would bet that here in Sacramento County that 85% of both registered Democrats and registered Republicans could not tell you who the county Party Chairman is without looking it up. That makes it easy for some really stupid decisions.
 
Looks as though the Texas GOP is stuck with him until they can come up with some charge on which they can remove him for malfeasance in Office.
 
Since he is a member here I'm not sure we can speculate on his mental condition or not.

But I suppose I can talk about his public postings which to my mind seem to be a strange pastiche of misogyny, homophobia and peanut butter fetishes. How 25,000 people said "the guy that talks about Hillary's sex life an awful lot is definitely who I want in charge" is a pretty good mystery.

I know the poll showed 25,518 for Morrow and 11,247 for Dickey, but I'd guess a more accurate breakdown would be:

Robert Morrow . . . . . . . . . . 137
eeny-meeny-miny-moe . . . . . . 2,985
Whatever. . . . . . . . . . . . 8,848
County chairman is a thing? . . 9,046
Which one isn't 'Dickey?' . . . 4,502
James Dickey . . . . . . . . . 11,247

He, himself, admits that his ballot placement accounted for many of his votes.

Also, how are voters going to know what this guy's positions were?

And as for walking the right side of the line when it comes to talking about members. I think you can always quote the press. There are a lot of articles calling him crazy and questioning his rationality.

In that Reuters article earlier Morrow himself says he probably only won because his name came first on the ballot.

He claimed to be the Chairman of C.A.S.H - The Campaign Against Sexual Hypocrisy. Reason being he doesn't understand why it's wrong to keep very publicly saying he wants to "**** girls with big titties"

Re his mental condition: it's pretty damned obvious.
And as said, the press are commenting on this fact.

I'm sure some voters thought it amusing to vote for him.
But that's another example of why The Drumpf situation makes the rest of the world laugh, whilst at the same time wondering WTF is wrong with you guys :)

I even tried to watch that GOP debate thingy last in the, (my), early hours. Good grief. Luckily I fell asleep. The religious twaddle and lies about it disgusted me.

You're right, I'm very scared and it baffles me as to why most U.S. Folk aren't. That seems to be changing somewhat now, thankfully, but it's a little late. I apologise for having to watch that Fox News thing but I approve of their tactics.

Re. Drumpf:

It's become a habit. I have the Drumpfinator Chrome extension installed and forget. It makes me chortle, especially when looking at my BBC News.

Lots of reasons. Some people think the Morlocks can be talked out of their support for Trump once they are shown what a bad guy he is (Like Mitt Romney just tried to do...and failed). Except, the Morlocks I've personally talked to like Trump because they can identify with him.

Some people are Nihilistic and looking forward to the destruction from whence we can build anew....or so it is hoped. I think they are dreaming.

Some people deny Trump will be as bad as feared, and while he probably won't meet the levels of Hysteria this far offered, but he will blaze a new trail of mean-spiritedness for others to follow.

Nevertheless, everybody is a bit uneasy. Even the Morlocks have second thoughts now and again.
 
It would be a misplaced fear. Our next President is going to be the first female POTUS and that's pretty amazing following the first black POTUS.
