Presidential Primaries 2016

I agree.
Although, I can picture Cruz trying to assassinate Rubio.

Disclaimer:
I am not advocating violence of any sort. I am making a joke about Senator Cruz's all-consuming thirst for power. It appears that he believes that there is no lie too great, no slander too low, no action too cutthroat.

I don't know about assassination, maybe just Tonya Harding-ing Rubio.

In fact, I am baffled as to how Senator Cruz has avoided the nickname Senator Palpatine.

Even people who are on the same ideological wave length as Cruz hate his guts because he is such a total jerk and so power hungry.

Is anyone besides me floored at the Hispanic vote Trump got in Nevada knowing what he's said about immigration in the past?
I'm floored that Trump is getting votes at all, knowing what he's said about large swaths of voters in the past. Then again, he does like the poorly educated, maybe there are a lot more of them than I believed.

Trump getting a significant share of Hispanic Republicans is not remotely the same thing as getting a signficant share of the Hispanic population overall. Particularly of the Mexican-American population. Not all Hispanics are Mexican.

Not even the Cubans?

Trump received roughly 45% of Hispanic voters in the Nevada caucus... but what percentage of Nevada Hispanics voted in it?? If he's getting 45% of 10% of a demo then so what??

Yep. Only 75,000 voted in the caucus. That's compared to over 400,000 who polled for Romney in 2012. If they can show 15,000 Hispanic voters voted (based on 20% + Hispanic demographic in NV) in the caucuses (with Trump taking "more than the other guys") this might be saying something.

However, a dubious poll, prior to the caucus isn't going to prove anything. Trump will get his sound bytes for this just as he got them for his other dubious stat about how well he was polling with blacks.

Anyone got a link to this poll about the Hispanics in Nevada?

May be 45% of a very small N. And what percentage of republican caucus-goers are Hispanic to begin with. Would be interesting to compare with the D caucus held a few days earlier too.

Ok, so I think I found the relevant exit polls.

http://edition.cnn.com/election/primaries/polls/nv/Rep

Racial or ethnic demographics for the Republican caucus-goers were: 85% white, 8% Latino, 2% Asian, 1% black and 3% other. Trump's 45% among Latinos was basically the same as his total share of the vote among all voters there.

http://edition.cnn.com/election/primaries/polls/nv/Dem

On the Dem side 59% were white, 19% Latino, 13% black, 4% Asian, and 4% other.

Assuming those numbers are correct, 8% of 45,000 is 6,000; 45% of that is 2700. Not a huge number. The really significant number is that 85% of caucus-goers were white. The R's can't win like that any more.

I'd also like to see the gender breakdown, guess I should click on the link.

ETA: OK, clicked. Trump did very nearly the same among men and women, 47% vs 45%, and they attended the caucus in about equal numbers. Rubio won over the younger voters.

What has been lost in the Donald Trump uproar is that the theocrats in the GOP are hardly even hiding their wanting to turn the US into a "Christian Nation" (ie,theocracy) any more.

Michael Bloomberg has ruled out a run:
Michael Bloomberg Will Not Enter Presidential Race

I also struck a couple others from HGC's master list.

Jesse Ventura is apparently still talking about running so I left him unstruck for now.

FWIW, I could not find on the FEC list of 2016 Presidential Form 2 Filers a form for Vermin Supreme, so he is not "officially" running, whatever that means.
