Continued: (Ed) Atheism Plus/Free Thought Blogs (FTB)

Goldsmiths University, that's where that racist, sexist, walking freak show Bahar Mustafa hailed from.

Given that both the Goldsmiths Feminist Society and The Goldsmiths LGBTQ+ Society have both sided with the brothers of Goldsmiths ISOC I'd say the place has a serious SJW infestation and should be blacklisted by thinking people like Maryam Namazie.

Why is she still at FtB when all her comments sections are dead ? She probably looses more credibility being associated with that place than she gains from it.

Probably just a weird coincidence.

FTFY

I'm guessing she turned comments off because the local horde would turn on her otherwise. She has pissed off feminists and muslims, which makes her vulnerable to the usual baseless charges of internalized misogyny and islamophobia.

This place is looking like it's too far gone for any sort of reformation, best to just abandon it to the SJWs so they can have their own school. I mean, we have Christian, Muslim and Jewish Universities, so why not an SJW one ?

If we're going to have feminists defending a religion that's hostile to women ( by feminist standards ) AND gays defending a religion not know for it's tolerance of homosexuality we're clearly looking at a situation that's motivated solely by hatred of the "christian" west....and atheists

Oh yea, I can hear the dogwhistles, and sense the microagressions, these students were out for atheist blood and as an atheist I have nothing to offer them other than the back of my middle finger.

That makes sense, I've never tried to comment on an FtBlog before.

Richard Carrier has just posted a critique of Jerry Coyne's blog post on "cultural appropriation" of food culture, here: http://freethoughtblogs.com/carrier/archives/9036

Coyne's blog post was a response to an article on a feminist website called "The Feminist Guide to Being a Foodie Without Being Culturally Appropriative" by Rachel Kuo. Kuo was complaining about the dominant culture of the USA culturally appropriating 'ethnic' foods.

Coyne's article: https://whyevolutionistrue.wordpres...eating-ethnic-food-is-cultural-appropriation/
Kuo's article: http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/11/foodie-without-appropriation/

Carrier also has another go at Richard Dawkins in his blog post, and I'm not sure why. Carrier seems to be digging deeper and deeper into vitriol and 'shock jock' writing, even as FTBs appear to be dying. It's like a slow slow train crash occurring before our eyes.

Richard Carrier said:
Don’t reduce cultures to their foods. “All Japanese people love sushi” is not all that different from “All black people love fried chicken.” And there is more to being Japanese than cuisine.

"Reduce" is starting to become one of my least favorite words. So often it just seems to be used nonsensically. How exactly does one reduce a culture to its food? I've also never in my life heard anyone say anything like "All Japanese people love sushi".

Richard Carrier said:
Don’t erase the cultures you are taking from.

"Erase" is another weird one.

Richard Carrier said:
Don’t let your enjoying other cuisines become an excuse to remain ignorant of the problems actually being faced by their affiliated societies right now.

Like saying "I don't need to learn about the plight of Mexicans because I eat Mexican food"? Does this ever actually happen?

He really knows how to throw a good elbow or ten to the ribs, this Carrier. I like how he also threw in a "don't tone police me" at the end.

Shock jock? You may recall reported earlier in this thread, this is the guy who crashed another FTB blogger's comments section with an unnecessary "too much information" revelation about his own sexual fetishes.

One person over there apparently commented that Carrier, when it comes to sex and posting, is too much 'in your face'. :)

.
As well he should, having originally pioneered the us-or-them model of discourse for Atheism Plus.

That was fresh in my mind, yes. He attempted to pioneer it, but it didn't catch on. (The us vs them mentality was and is very much alive there, but not Carrier's particular version / not in relation to whether or not one endorses "A+" as a label).

I saw those over on the pit, they're good however I'm having a hard time actually reading them in the collection form due to image size.

Thanks! If you click on the image in the wix slideshow it opens "full screen" and you can continue to navigate in that mode.

What sort of corroboration do you expect for a story in which one person has cornered happily come across someone else in an enclosed and completely private space?

Rorschach claims to have spent the weekend with Elevator Guy, whereas you claim that Elevator Guy may be a fictional character created by Rebecca Watson to further an political agenda. One of you two sounds awfully conspiratorial about this, and it sure as **** isn't Martin.

Where has anyone (in this thread) attempted to defend Watson's behavior on stage at CFI's Student Leadership Conference?

Parachuting in ......

It is possible that Rorschach merely meant he was at the Dublin Conference with EG - not fishing down at the lake as a new BF.

In his account of the wee hours pub scene he describes a "cauldron of people" then "quite a few people" and crucially he leaves 30mins before Rebecca did.

I also get the feeling PZ had left some time before - leaving Martin alone in the corner mourning his dead laptop battery.

That said Martin's total population of possible candidates is considerably smaller than ours. But to borrow from anti 911 truther methodology, I find it amazing that the rest of the cauldron has kept mum all these years.

Personally I'd say the incident did occur. I'd grant Watson considerable licence though to embellish her story for dramatic effect. I doubt EG was anybody "important" as that would risk blowback and it certainly wouldn't be anyone she considered desirable.

Just a drunk fanboy smacking into the windscreen of reality.

It doesn't actually work for me. When I do that I get an even smaller image than the one in the slideshow. Maybe it's a Firefox thing.

Your link is to a version of the Becca Camp version, which contains a lot of straw. Was it supposed to be a revelation? Or were you just noting the bunch of people involved?

EG was almost certainly in the group described by Rorschach still boozing at 3.30am. I can't imagine that there could have been dozens about at that time but who knows.

Problem is he is our best eyewitness but he left at 3.30am prior to the 4.00am incident and has been coy about additional knowlege. There were photos of the pack, but they have disappeared, were partial shots and were probably taken earlier in the evening.

Given her queen bee status, I find it weird no-one noticed Watson's would-be detach to begin his "trench run".

Damion suggested that Martin knows EG and therefore EG is not a myth.
The best eyewitness account suggests that Martin probably didn't knowingly eyeball the guy.

Revelation? Maybe a small sad one.

I included the link because a) the eyewitness account sets interesting tone and context and b) people get triggered by linkless assertions. :)
