The original source seems to be the National Enquirer, which does occasionally break real stories, but is otherwise known for being a sensationalist gossip rag.

There are some named individuals in the Mail story, which apparently comes from video and emails, so it might be true.

I suppose we will have to wait until the interview itself.

I don't think he'll make it. Besides, Charlie Sheen time isn't the same as regular time - he partied more in one evening than a normal man could manage in a month. If hedonism were a martial art, Charlie would be Chuck Norris.

Actually these are the people least likely to infect you. They have to be regularly tested for STDs to allow them to keep on working. Staying disease free is what keeps their bills paid.

So, it turns out to be true and Sheen is HIV positive.

I'm going to guess intravenous drugs were more likely the culprit, although Charlie probably won't admit it. Female-male transmission of HIV is relatively rare in Western societies.

You are confusing proportions with rarity. Yes, IVDU and MSM account for higher numbers of HIV infections in the US. The fact HIV spread is prevalent in heterosexual men in other countries suggests it's not as low risk as a lot of men would like to believe.

OTOH, IVDU is more likely to have been the source if you are going by odds of the source of infection rather than rarity of transmission.

But when heterosexual men are having intercourse with prostitutes and using IV drugs, often mutually, a new case of HIV is likely to be counted as having been contracted through the drug use. That likely leads to some undercounting of heterosexual transmission.


Do we know yet if he infected anyone? He talked around the question of whether he had sex without informing his partners in the interview. When asked he said the way this got out was because a woman knew about his infection. If you listen to the question, he clearly avoided answering.

I only saw that clip and didn't hear the follow up questions.
