Presidential Primaries 2016

Now The Donald is threatening to boycott the CNBC debate unless they change the format.
CNBC will probably cave...Trump means ratings... and the CNBC format did not seem very good but threatening the boycott does not make him look very good.
But his supporters love it. I think it become frightningly clear that many of the Trump supporters want a dictator who will make all the decisions for them. When enough of the people feel this way, a democracy dies. Scary.

Hmmmmmmm... Who do they own? CNN maybe?

If CNN is pro-Clinton you sure don't see it in their programming except for this single post-debate FaceBook kerfuffle.

I think you should wait for more evidence than a bunch of Bernie CTers on FB.

Alternatively, Trump has a setup for quitting the campaign: Waa! Waa! They won't treat me fairly. The system is rigged. I quit!

Stuff like this is why I kind of lose sympathy over the "big wall street lobbyists" line of argument. Bush's donors make him a poster child of the Democrat argument that Republicans are big business folks, and then these candidates come along and are carbon copies on the reliance on them for campaign financing. Even Sanders falls into this category a little bit...

CNBC folded like a cheap suit. My respect for them is now zero.
But I agree that is what Trump's exit line is going to be when he collapses. To be followed a few days later by an announcement he is running as a independent candidate because "the people" want him to.
Anybody who thinks that DOnald's pledge not to do so is worth anything is an idiot.

OK, but did you actually lose any respect for CNBC by lowering it to zero? I don't know, but to me it makes sense to give candidates the opening statement, at least, though the closing statement ain't high on my list.

No, the worst thing about this whole incident is that Trump is going to stand up there and brag about making CNBC fold like a cheap suit because he is just the mostest awesomest everest.

He got $4000 from Merill Lynch.

:D

ETA: Probably fell out of someone's pocket there.

again, the companies or people within the companies, if the latter, what was the size of the donations? ...I'd think most of Sanders' donors can do so again, the vast majority, multiple times again.

The companies or individuals within the companies?

The money came from the organizations' PACs; their individual members, employees or owners; and those individuals' immediate families. At the federal level, the organizations themselves did not donate, as they are prohibited by law from doing so. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

^^From the bottom of the profile
I had a second look earlier after you responded the first time - hence mentioning the lower numbers. Hillary far outpaces him on donations

In non PAC money they aren't far apart.

Given the fact that he doesn't coordinate with any PACs, I fully expect that he will never compete well in terms of PAC money, and I'd be unlikely to support him as eagerly if he did.

I agree the CNBC format was lousy, but, still,it's looks as if they caved in to Trump. And CNN and FOX news are not being shy about making CNBC look bad in this.

I repeat what I said in another thread:Give the debates back to the League of Women Voters. The Debate Commision has been a disaster, and the idea of letting the Networks sponsor the debates has been a double disaster since all the networks care about is ratings.

I'm a little lost here. The debates we're talking about today are intra-Party affairs. I know the League of Women Voters did, and the Debate Commission now does, manage the Presidential and Vice President debates for the general election, but I don't recall them ever being involved in these Primary-season debates, candidate forums, or what have you.

In a sense, these debates really depend on the candidates themselves and their collective and individual willingness to abide by anyone's authority. There's no inherent power in the RNC and DNC to determine debates. Candidates are free to accept any invitation to take the stage with other candidates and duke it out. I am actually surprised that the RNC chair Reince Priebus is able to carry through on his determination to limit the GOP debate schedule. If anything, I would have thought that this ridiculously unruly batch of candidates would have stepped all over him by now, but it seems that sometimes herding cats is easier than cats forming up on their own in organized action.
