The day you are saved - from religion

Ooh I forgot I had Leumus on ignore.

But since I can now see the post. Um YES I do think that growing up in a fanatical fundamentalist home causes mental issues in a person. Then when the person gets out of that home they operate in the same way.

For example if someone grew up in an abusive home, statistically they are more likely to abuse their own children, even if they are no longer living in their home.

Reading the personal attack by Leumus you can see it's filled with vitriol and anger. So I wonder why you operate this way. Do you really think an attack like that is going to "get under my skin" or "bother me?"

It's sad that you obviously think so. And tsigs chiming in on the bullying matches as well. (Even though the Ouch and laughing dog is pretty lame....um.........no......no Ouch. LOL) My experience with both of you is that you grew up in fanatical situations and then continue to project that behavior onto other people even though you are purportedly now "atheists"

You bring up seminary and that's interesting as well. When I quit seminary (or dropped out as you chose) I probably continued to discuss and debate religion for a year or so. At the time I was very interested in religious beliefs in general.

But this is what was posted above that I agree with. What reason would a regular old atheist have to be so completely obsessed, pathologically obsessed with religious discussion if you don't believe in it?

Why do you then continue for decades and years to engage in hostile discussion with people about it?

Don't normal atheists who haven't been damaged by pathological religious upbringing, not feel the need to go out attacking people for what they believe?

Please note that you can easily tell this kind of Atheist because they don't seem to have a problem with Hindu beliefs or other non Christian beliefs. In fact they often make excuses for them.

It's pretty transparent. And like I said before, sad.

Your crystal ball is a bit cloudy, I did not grow up in a fundamentalist home, my family was Catholic. I think it would be wise for you to leave other posters names and motivations out of your posts and respond to what is written not what you wish was written.

Ah that is a such a great way of putting it. They are pathologically obsessed with religion! Exactamundo! So this woman for example (if you read her blog) is obviously going through some sort of spiritual crisis and is taking it out on everyone around her and lashing out because she doesn't want to feel like a "minority"

The point is that obsessed with having/banning sex is one single psychological issue, that's why I call antitheists "religious" folk.

I think it's easier to me to spot the whole religious shenanigans because Puritanism is something alien to my culture and I find it pretty nasty. Evangelism is not so alien nowadays, but their viral manners are equally nasty to me. So I can spot a puritan or evangelical antitheist the minute they type the first syllable.

It's kinda dumb to me because want to say to her "Um you do realize that even if they keep quiet in front of you, they still believe what they believe. You still are a minority?"

Yes, but having them quiet is somewhat a progress.

Whoops I accidentally wrote fundamentalist, I guess out of habit. What I meant to say was fanatical or extreme beliefs.

Catholics are pretty extreme and especially considering your age I would imagine even more so conservative.

So here's what I wonder. Why is it, that we rarely see Atheists attacking Believers for years if they were not raised in a religious household?

Why don't we see Angry Atheists that grew up in Atheist homes?

I know you mentioned that you went to seminary yourself decades ago. So why are you still in the fight? If you are at peace in your beliefs, why the need to so fervently denigrate others?

And it's funny to me how suddenly since the conversation involves you, the laughing dog and OUCH!!! have turned into "It's not nice to personalize posts"

Well hey at least you still hung on to the Catholic tradition of hypocrisy! ;):D

Yes, but having them quiet is somewhat a progress.

You're OK with atheists as long as they sit down and shut up.

Things which they are being unfairly accused of by apologist theists is one topic which comes to mind

Why would they even be in the discussion? I mean if it's a matter of standing up for virtuousness, aren't there more pressing things to address than ********ting on a message board?

If all it takes for evil to succeed in the world, well do you think the guy meant, "Sit down and pretend you are actually "doing something' when in reality you are just bitching and whining online and then doing absolutely nothing of consequence in real life"

But you know, as long as you get to pretend you are doing something real. Right?

Where did that come from?

You're trying too hard. The desperation is showing.

Are you asking me or yourself?

Are you an authority on "real life" in general, or just other peoples'?

What is the basis for this authority? Are you stalking them?

But you know, as long as you get to pretend you are doing something real. Right?

Have you got any mirrors where you live?

You need them.

Projection! Ahh the last recourse of someone who can't make an argument. Right out of the "PeeWee Herman "I know you are but what am?!!" school of thought. Tips hat!

I can agree with the quietness part.

I like the idea of examining it from the Puritanical point of view. I'd never think of it that way.

If you look up Heather Graham you can see that she chooses movie roles where she's able to go out of her way in her sexuality. She mentions in interviews that she grew up in a conservative home and that's the reason.

I forget how Puritan the US seems to the rest of the world.;)

I have no quarrel with atheists. It's false atheists we're talking about. And I'm pretty verbal on the issue too. I'm happy protesting for religious images in public places, even in the building where I live. Those images are offensive outside their specialized cult venues, and I -like many- want that to be clearly stated. It's easy because most of the society think that way here. The occasional processions or mardi gras -now Halloween, what a piece of cultural colonialist crap- don't bother me.

If you -and who think like you- still don't get it I'm saying you're deceiving yourself: religion is an important part in your lives as you're obsessed with it. You lifted off from religion but you continue to gravitate around it, tidally locked and moonstruck.

The extremely bad faith and fallacy galore in Leumas' posts and many of yours are the undeniable proof of it. I don't care if you acknowledge it or not. Better if you don't because all this posting spree can continue until I become bore of the same toy.

Ahh.. the No True Atheist fallacy. Who died and made you Atheist Pope that you can define who is and who is not an Atheist? Instead of telling us there are fallacies maybe you could show us the fallacies or would that be beneath the dignity of an Authority such as yourself?

I think he subscribes to the same school of "ideas" as this one.

Besides isn't the below quite revealing?

I have no quarrel with atheists.
