Merged Pterry's death announced / Terry Pratchett dead at 66

Erm, because that's part of the title of the merged thread

How should I know I should search for that? I've read most of the books by him and several about him, but never encounterd the nick 'pterry'.

Hans

How is that even possible?

Because the nick 'Pterry' never appears in any of the books?

It's was pretty much exclusively an online thing that happened shortly after pyramids in the days when the man himself would log on to USENET (I think) and make funny comments on the boards devoted to him.

Reading all the books in a very thorough fashion won't give you the name Pterry anywhere. Ptepic, yes, Pterry, no.

Specifically, I think, alt.fan.pratchett (afp). From the FAQ:

--- WHY PTERRY? ---

Pterry is an affectionate nickname in the tradition of his book
Pyramids. Pteppic, Ptracy and therefore Pterry.

Explains it. I have never been an online fan (of anything). Not even of Douglas Addams. Read their books, I have done, repeatedly.

Bump.
Yes he's still dead (:() but his legacy isn't; his estate has announced the endowment of the Sir Terry Pratchett Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship recipient will also have the opportunity to conduct their research both at University of South Australia, and at Trinity College Dublin for up to a full year in the course of their two-year’s study.
The collaborative scholarship builds on a growing relationship between two very different universities in two hemispheres, who share links both through research and their strong associations with Sir Terry Pratchett and is underpinned by an MOU between Trinity College Dublin’s Trinity Long Room Hub and University of South Australia’s Hawke Research Institute.

Just bought his last book (The Shepherd's Crown). I'm a bit busy right now, so I'm saving reading till I have better time.

I liked it, though it was clear it wasn't quite finished when he died.
The beginning though.. that was hard.
