Continuation Part 18: Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito

Amanda was desperately jealous of Mez, who was more popular, had superior academic and linguistic ability, taller, and much better looking. Mez snubbing her on halloween was the final straw. Rudy and Raff were a couple of ne'er-do-well thrill-seekers in her thrall.

No wonder Raff says he wishes he'd never met her.

Poor Mez is the real victim in this.

Amanda was jealous for Meredith? Don't make me laugh.
1. Amanda was a very good student.
2. She attended one of the finest universities in America for the previous 2 years. There were many very intelligent students who she went to school with.
3. She also attended one of the finest prep schools on the West coast. Lots of bright students there.
4. Amanda was dating the rich Doctor's son who had his own place with a maid and a new car. Who was crazy about her.
5. Meredith OTOH was dating Giacomo, who had been mistreating Meredith.

Where do come up with these things?

Is there a logic section to the Mensa quiz?

Every now and then she would bob her head in time to the music, almost as if she were alone in the room with no one around to see her. Something about her was undeniably eccentric, but I didn't dislike it at all. I'd never met someone with so few inhibitions, yet she had this goofy charm that drew me to her and made me feel immediately comfortable.

Honor Bound pp5-6

..Meredith left at intermission to meet friends for dinner..

Waiting to be heard p.51

LOL. So not invited? Dumped again.

Raff notices she's a weird ball from get go. By his standards even, a lost boy whose papa has to ring him dozens of times a day to makes sure he hasn't done anything silly with his knives, whilst under cocaine or LSD, and he finds Amanda completely goofy?

While Meredith was scheduled to fly home in early November, it's certainly possible that she missed home and did a quick trip in early October as ONLY her father claims.

If Meredith's father's other unsubstantiated assertion is correct, that Meredith had kavetched about Amanda all the way home in early October, then it's rather surprising that Meredith returned to Perugia from England and then went to a chocolate festival, and then the next week to a concert, with Amanda.

From trial June 6, 2009:

John Kercher said that Meredith mentioned Amanda to him only twice.
"She spoke to me about her, about the fact that she was surprised how soon Amanda had gotten a boyfriend" when she arrived in Perugia, and "she told me a couple of weeks before she died that she was upset that Amanda never seemed to flush the toilet."

That didn't stop "Kevin Wade" (Rudy) from chatting up American students. Sure Raff was quite studious, but he was a "rebel without a cause", together with the restless Amanda, who craved excitement.

There in fact is nothing to support that Rudy "chatted up" Amanda. In fact he barely said more than hello

My point is that you are being less than accurate in your assertions.

You may need to look back farther, then. IIRC the term is used five times, with another word between them just to confound an easy use of the "find" function.

I realize it's not a trick question but it would make it easier if you were clearer as to what your agenda for asking is. I thought I'd been clear, also that he'd been clear.

Is this another gotcha set up?

Dear gawd, you said or at least implied he would use the term incorrectly and I merely am asking how you interpret it and how you characterize his interpretation.

My search was without quotes so it should pick up all mentions.

You are being deliberately obtuse. It is common knowledge V&C were heavily criticised. Do your own reading.

No, I'm not. A complete reading of Cheiffi would not lead one to the idea that V&C did anything false and unethical. But hey, if I'm wrong, all you need to do is cite the appropriate passages.

Sure, Andrew Gumbell, the ghostwriter for Raff, puts a fictitious human face on it, i.e., a fairytale romance. Truth is, it was a sordid pick up situation. A lonely goofy American pulling a horny young guy who can barely believe his luck.

Hey, I'm weird. So are you. Sometimes that's a good thing.

But presumably you are using R's book as a primary source in which case you are misrepresenting what he actually says.

I despair. Hello? John Kercher's version is the honest one. Yours is a pile of pants.

ETA Amanda ripped out her diary pages re the chocolate festival and Mez left the concert half way through.

Even Raff was embarrassed by Amanda, claiming she was nodding her head and tapping her feet to classical music as though she was at a rock concert! Perhaps she even whistled along, like Del Boy at the opera.

Kercher,s own court testimony in fact contradicts what he wrote in his book. What a surprise. A tabloid writer lying in a book he wrote, what a surprise.

I guess, like Richard Owens publications in The Times we should believe that instead of what happened in court?

Isn't that right Vixen? BTW, We're all still waiting for those court citations. I'm ready to apologize and retract.

Raise your right hand, Grinder:

1) I will not take this subthread in the direction of "But you said....", "No, I said.......", "But in an earlier post you said....." So help me God. (Or, I so affirm)

Machiavelli said there were five instances in the Marasca report where he says there was a strong suspicion that AK (and I inferred RS) were involved.

I ran two or three of those through Google translate and (given the murky nature of that endeavour!) began to suspect that the phrase "forte sospetto" was used not for the purposes of directly saying something contradictory to Marasca's overall conclusion.

Anglolawyer during his duties around proof-reading snippets of text at an upcoming translation said (at that point) that Machiavelli might have a point.

Anglolawyer seemed to back off that fear once reading in a larger context.

Both LondonJohn and/or carbonjam72 have offered opinions similar to mine, and contrary to Machiavelli's, again perhaps a result of their own laundering of Italian text through machine translation.

I (rather lamely it turns out) tied to lampoon Machiavelli, who is involved in a separate translation project. I suspected his translation would make it crystal clear that Marasca is a criminal and perhaps worse, a Mason, especially in the way Machiavelli's translation will handle the "forte sospetto" issue.

Is this really necessary?

FYI: I know how important it is to you to be accurate but they are not a "ghost writer" if they are given credit. And since Gumbell's name is on the title page..well you get the drift.

Bill, Bill, Bill,

You found the need to bring it up for some reason and I merely asked what the difference is. I don't see that "forte sospetto" can be interpreted as anything but strongly suspected.

It would be nice to get at least one of the translations out even if not perfect.

Amanda was in Perugia under her own steam, doing a language course. Mez was at the academic University on a prestigious ERASMUS exchange from Leeds uni, as part of her degree module.

Amanda's fellows being "very good students" translates into a logical fallacy to say, therefore she must be.

In Europe, we take it for granted our boyfriends will be as equally classy and elegant as ourselves. I am surprised you suggest Amanda would be impressed by a car, as when I visited my friend in the USA even her sixteen year old son had a beautiful car, they had a lovely home and it was only in the eighth richest area in the US, with Dolly Parton as one of the neighbours. Americans seemed very affluent compared to many Brits. So Amanda came from such a rough neighbourhood, she'd throw herself at someone like Raff "because he's got a new car"?

Mez had a normal student-style relationship. She wasn't bedding every guy in town.
