Merged Woman Killed by Illegal Immigrant in San Francisco

America itself has a "let in tourists from Denmark" policy. If one of them kills an American do we freak out and never let any more tourists from Denmark into the country?

How dare those New England states think they can free those slaves!

Like it or not San Francisco has such laws as a response to what they perceive as unjust and immoral legal policy.

Care to elaborate?

Actually the SC law in S.F. was enacted as a measure to ensure that illegal immigrants could report being the victim of a crime w/o fear of being deported.

How that became a catch and release program for individuals accused of or convicted of committing crimes is something of a mystery, but having watched how this has played out over the years I cite how this law evolved as an example of The Law of Unintended Consequences.

I don't believe that any of the sitting S.F. supervisors at the time this was put into law imagined that it would end up as a policy that protects convicted criminals from deportation after conviction.

And if we ended bail for even non violent felonies we wouldn't have had the church shooting in South Carolina. When will we start being serious about crime?

Keep them in jail until trial for all felonies.

Care to elaborate?

The major difference I can see is that, in this case, the police responded appropriately- ie. instead of attacking the neighborhood residents or blaming the victim, they simply arrested the guy who shot her.

The parents of Kate Steinle want to pass Kate's law

http://www.breitbart.com/video/2015...nts-pass-kates-law-govt-agencies-let-us-down/

The law would require minimum sentences for illegals who reenter the US

The second part of the interview centered on Kate’s Law, or the Establishing Mandatory Minimums for Illegal Reentry Act. Kate’s father said, “Well, I support Kate’s Law, because it would be a legacy in her name, and her death would not go unnoticed. We’re an apolitical family. We keep up with politics, because we’re citizens of the United States. And, you know, we feel the federal, state, and cities, their laws are here to protect us, but we feel that this particular set of circumstances, and the people involved, the different agencies let us down. And we just — we’re just a little tired of the finger-pointing and just want to see some action, and if Kate’s Law saves one person, then it’s all for good.” He did state that they want to “be involved in the language of the law.”

Her mother added, “I just want it to be a good, solid law that won’t have holes in it. And I’m sure there will be a lot of posturing back and forth, I had no idea how many people have been killed by illegal aliens. And we’ve had quite a few people reach out to us, and we had no idea it was an issue, but something definitely needs to be done.”

And it would not have done a thing to prevent their daughter's death. Sanchez had already served his sentence, and would have been deported, except the City of S.F. brought him to town.

If SF were not a sanctuary city he would have been deported

If he were in prison he would not have committed the crime either

If we banned guns he still would have committed a murder because he stole his gun from a federal agent.

I think I have all the bases covered, do you?

75% of head of household families from Mexico are on welfare. Dems want more immigrants to win votes its destroying our economy.

Our economy is in great shape. Wages are stagnant because greedy business owners refuse to include workers in their success. The willfull ignorant who fall for Republican lies are delusional.

Corporate profits have risen significantly while wages stay the same. I thought it was supposed to trickle down.....

Yeah, notice the difference between the media's treatment of her death and their treatment of Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, etc., etc.

Yeah, let's see: Did the cops shoot an unarmed woman?
Nope

Did the cops fail to charge a man for murder or manslaughter for shooting an unarmed woman?
Nope

Got any more matters you don't understand?

OMG, where did you get this tripe from?

Let me guess, a Donald Trump declaration.

An exaggeration, for sure. However, Mexico does have a very large income disparity, something that Conservatives think isn't a problem. Well, it's not a problem if it's in the USA.

Looking at Mexico's policies, they seem to echo what Conservatives want in the USA. Perhaps this is why Mexico has such a large problem with poverty.

Wages are stagnant because labor is cheap and abundant. Immigration keeps labor costs down.

What does this have to do with the BS claim "75% of head of household families from Mexico are on welfare"? It's pure crap.

Oh, it is a BS claim. I just think it's interesting that the claim was made by the same person who wants to have policies enacted in the USA that would raise the poverty levels to that of Mexico.

Is this the type of person we want to allow into this country (highlited portion)?

Certainly not, and we didn't ALLOW him in.

Did this not ultimately lead to the part I bolded above - murder?

No, it certainly did not lead to random murder. I see no rational connection between his previous offenses and shooting people at random w/o cause.

You've completely missed my point. If we had sane drug laws this guy might (I don't know all his conviction details) only been guilty of illegal entry. IOW nothing indicative.

Yes, he was only a drug user and dealer, and maybe did some violent crime(s), and spent many years here in federal prison, but he wasn't that violent until he actually murdered someone. You don't have a problem with this type of person being allowed into our country?

You have been listening to too much hyperbolic news reportage. READ the record. His last drug conviction was in 1996, 19yrs ago. Most of his drug charges were possession and it doesn't show possession for sale which is a separate charge (one was for manufacture). All of his long sentences were years after his drug arrests and for illegal entry and probation violations & such. It *appears* he was a heroin abuser, not a violent Mexican drug lord, nor a serious dealer as you imagine.

Yes, I have a BIG problem w/ it, but until you figure out how to seal borders airtight what you and I "want" is an academic issue.

We have people waiting in line to get in here legally.... [but] some people should not be allowed in at all, we have no obligation to them.

You misread me. I was not suggesting that he should be here or should not be be deported again. He is certainly an "undesirable" person, but not among the ppl that should appear on any "most wanted" list either. Sorry to disagree, but an 18yo threat/violence charge is not suggestive that a person will commit random murders.

I object to your term "allow". NO ONE "ALLOWED" him in, he broke in repeatedly. This guy does make the grade for deportation, BUT not based on any tendency toward violence that I can see.

San Francisco Sheriff ordered deputies not to make contact with ICE shortly before shooting.

The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association called for Mirkarimi to correct his “flawed philosophy” and rescind the March 13 memo prohibiting his staff from giving immigration agents information about detainees — including their citizenship status, their booking and arrest documents, and their release dates.

"In a democracy, people get the government they deserve." Good job, San Francisco.
