Prostitution by any other name?

Funny, women pay me not to sex them up.
I mostly pull in the "I'll give you a dollar to go away" greenbacks.

That's the part of the article that puzzled me the most... "growing world of 'sugar daddy' relationships" - "growing"?

My impression at (as of a week ago) 47 years old is that we've made a lot of progress and women have considerably better scholarship and student loan and income opportunities than they did in any previous generation. This is a declining phenomenon from what I can observe.

But the gap between rich and poor is growing so this may be the easiest or most desirable way for many pretty, poor women to pay for an education.

It does make sense. If your regular daddy can't pay for your college, get one who can.

There are websites devoted to finding alternative financing for your college education via sugar momma/daddies.

I know of several women who receive money from men whom they've never actually met in meat space. They chat with the men on-line and by phone. I don't see what the men get out of the arrangement, other than maybe the ego stroke from being able to say that he has a hot, young girlfriend - that none of his friends or coworkers ever actually sees? On the women's side, those looks are going to fade with age and those men are going to find younger, hotter babes. I've never gotten a rational answer to my question of "how are you going to support yourself when you're no longer the hot young thing you are now?"

Men grow cold
As girls grow old,
And we all lose our charms in the end.

But square-cut or pear-shaped,
These rocks don't lose their shape.
Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Oh noes, where is the line?

I once agreed to morning sex with my then-partner when I was too tired, on the condition that he make me pancakes immediately after. I should have been arrested!

I've heard of this sort of thing too. All I can think is, man, those must be some great conversations...

What line?

The difference is whether they receive money because of the sex or in spite of it.

If they stopped having sex would the money dry up? If the money stopped flowing would their sexual relationship continue?

Sure but i don't see that as necessarily problematic.

If someone gets married and has sex with their spouse with the sole, or at least primary, motivation of receiving money/valuables/etc then i have no problem describing such a relationship as nothing but glorified prostitution.

The line we are discussing of course. Is it prostitution or not? There is a legal definition, and in the United States at least there has to be an explicit, specific transaction involved or it's not considered prostitution. This typically has to happen before the act is committed, not afterwards, regardless of each parties motivation prior to the relationship. It's difficult to prove "motivation" anyway.

Except that the article is about the UK, not the US.

I need to get in on this.

"Stocky, middle-aged nice guy who owns a nice suit looking for his sugar momma. Must be generous with buying the drinks."

Where are the sugar momma sites?

Cougar.com?

George Peppard's character in Breakfast at Tiffany's was a "kept man" -- Patricia Neal's character set him up in an apartment and paid his bills and gave him walking-around money and all he had to do was mount her like a prize racehorse stud every other day when she swung by.

What the hell was Holly's job, for that matter? Aspiring gold digger of course, but did prostitution keep the lights on? Or a madam arranging parties for wealthier men and couples to meet young women?

Did anyone notice the opening scene (and title scene) was actually a walk of shame?

Except with all of the women i have known that had sugar daddies it never started out that way. there was never any money exchanged the first time or even the first few times they had sex. the financial support came afterwards in exchange for a relationship that included sex.

Sugar daddy rules are that you NEVER sleep with the sugar daddy.

Once you sleep with them, they lose interest and the size of the gifts declines.

Mail Order Bride is another example. Husband is providing citizenship instead of cash.

Another great example of something that can be reasonably described as prostitution.

Legally speaking, according to Swedish law, such a relationship isn't covered by the law prohibiting the purchasing of sex because said stature specifically mentions "a temporary sexual relationship". A legal marriage or other long-term sexual relationship would thus be excluded because it's not temporary, even if it's explicitly or implicitly based upon financial compensation.

Where are the sugar momma sites?

I used to browse a couple of the sites for fun before they figured out to require logging in. I doubt you would be the least attractive person on there.

And yes, sugardaddyforme.com does have Sugar Mommas.
Help & Definitions:
Sugar Daddy - Wants to find a Female Sugar Baby only.
Gay Sugar Daddy - Wants to find a Male Sugar Baby only.
Sugar Momma - Wants to find either a Male Sugar Baby or a Female Sugar Baby.
Sugar Baby - Female - Wants to find either a Sugar Daddy or a Sugar Momma.
Sugar Baby - Male - Wants to find either a Gay Sugar Daddy or a Sugar Momma.
I wonder why Sugar Daddies are split into straight & gay while Sugar Mommas and Babies can be either.

BBC News: The women seeking rich older men to pay their university fees

"It's been euphemistically referred to as "mutually beneficial, transactional dating" but is the growing world of "sugar daddy" relationships just a sanitised term for sex work?

Freya is 22 and wearing jogging bottoms and a tatty T-shirt. She expresses herself unaffectedly and confidently.

She decided to start sleeping with older men for money while she was at university. "I love sex," says Freya. "And you know, I'm pretty good at it. So getting a sugar daddy - or two - was a no-brainer really."

Freya is one of a growing number of debt-ridden university students in the UK who have decided to become "sugar babies". These young women agree to be wined and dined by rich, older men who are known as "sugar daddies", in return for cash and gifts.

"My married sugar daddy gave me about £1,000 a night," says Freya reflectively. "He was just in it for the sex. My divorced sugar daddy gave me between £1,000 and £2,000 as an allowance." "

Should we change the name to Prostituition for this form????

I remember watching Sunset Boulevard at a young age and thinking William Holden didn't have it that bad.

Sounds like demand outstrips supply.

Except for the whole being blasted into the pool by a Winchester rifle part.
