General TAM 2015 Thread

I'll be arriving early to Vegas (late evening, Saturday, 11. July), so I may be able to do some scouting of prospective locations, and post feedback on this forum, perhaps accompanied by pictures, if no decision on the location has been made before that.
That would be great. I agree with dasmiller that it would be best if it were a bar in the hotel. If that's not possible, then one close by.

Find a non-smoking place, if possible.

They are few and far between but do exist.

A YouTube tour of the Tropicana, mostly the casino and lobby/entrance area. It is smallish as far as Vegas hotels and casinos go, but since it's right on the strip it should be relatively easy to get around to other places as needed. I appreciate the escalators right outside to help cross the road. :)

So are we set on congregating at the sports bar?

Well, unless this page is wrong, opening hours at the sports bar appear to be quite limited (which is kind of weird for a Vegas casino bar--I thought they were always open):

It may make more sense to congregate in the main bar (Tropicana Lounge), unless/until we find a better option, maybe offsite. Looking forward to Sft's report, as he gets there early--see above.

BTW, this other page shows the sports bar to be open every day, so who knows which one is right (too late and too lazy to call and ask tonight):

My hesitation with the Tropicana Lounge is the live music. I have never been to a successful meetup at a place that had live music. It won't be easy to play Cards Against Humanity without being able to hear one another.

I found this map of the conference area:
http://www.smartmeetings.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/conference-center-1430880232.jpg

Of course, the main conference sessions will be in the large Trinidad Pavilion.
Workshops, shows, and meals will be in the smaller Trinidad rooms next to it.

The registration desk is mark, with rather tiny letters, towards the bottom of the floor plan.

According to an e-mail I got, the vendors will be in the small Partagas rooms next to the registration desk. If that's the case, it seems mildly less convenient than the hallway setup they had in the South Point. Oh well.
I assume the Forum table will be in there, as well, which MIGHT mean you'll need a badge to get in there.

No arguments there--hopefully we'll find a better place, but I doubt it'll be at the Tropicana.

Regarding the conference area--the email I got says the extra-special VIP exclusive Volunteers' Room is Trinidad 7. I'm looking forward to the cocktails and the hors d'oeuvre. :D

This page has links at the bottom with floor plans of the conference area. I'm sort-of disappointed with the limited number of restaurants and that only the Beach Cafe and South Beach Food Court would be open for breakfast or lunch -- two important meals for anyone there before TAM starts. :)

Wowbagger, you're weren't supposed to tell people that those items will be in the secret, unlabeled room by Trinidad 7 and 8. :(

Arrived at Vegas late yesterday night, and have started my bar reconnaissance - I'll open up a new thread on the subject later tonight, hopefully from a computer terminal of some sort rather than the phone I'm using now. Hate the fiddly small phone interface for anything longer than a couple of lines.

I've just been informed that the exhibit hall will be in the main room this year. This is good/bad. Sounds like a lot fewer folks than in years past.

Maybe yes, maybe no....

The recent message I received said that the exhibit hall would be in the Partagas rooms. On the maps I've seen, those are three adjoining rooms averaging 1100 square feet that are not a part of the main room, unless I am reading the map incorrectly. I will say, I was a tad (but only a tad) miffed that I got a phone call from JREF a few months after registering, asking me why I hadn't registered. I have also received a slew of e-mails counting down the days till registration closed, something I've never gotten before. So maybe attendance is down, or maybe the right hand and left hand just haven't found out what each other's doing.
