The body count tells us.
What does it tell us?
What is the body count and how are you dividing the just from the unjust?
The body count tells us.
Take yours off. I know Wilson treated Brown deplorably by telling him to get the **** out of the road. Nothing called for that other than contempt.
I don't know it. I was wrong to say so. I believe it. It has the ring of truth. LE doesn't exactly have credibility here as they are documented by the DOJ to be corrupt, discriminatory and hostile to blacks (see section C.).And we know this how, exactly? Surely you're not taking the word of Dorian Johnson, a known liar, are you?
I'm happy to grant all of that (being poor I'm not at all unfamiliar with unruly youth wandering the neighborhood). Also, ftr, I was a counselor for the Utah Boys Ranch for 2 years while I was studying sociology at the University of Utah.RandFan, have you never seen young thugs/punks/generic whatevers walking in the middle of the street as a demonstration of their power / frustration / something? It sounds like a small thing, but it can be really intimidating to a neighborhood. My parents are terrified when they have to drive through these groups of menacing youths. If a cop, after the eleventy-hundredth time passing punks walking in the middle of the street, used an F-bomb, this does not shock me nor disturb me.
At the end of the day do your job or accept you fail. It's a bitch but that's life.
I didn't volunteer to be a citizen. On the contrary, I was born with certain unalienable rights. I have a duty to comply with the law and the EXPECTATION that I should oppose the law if my conscience so dictates (see civil disobedience).Does this apply to citizens?
In a perfect world, you are right. Until then, we will continue to recruit police officers from the pool of available humans.I'm happy to grant all of that (being poor I'm not at all unfamiliar with unruly youth wandering the neighborhood). That said, the police don't exist as a means to themselves. Citizens do. No matter how bad people behave the job of a law enforcement officer is still to treat all citizens professionally.
There is no other reasonable option, you don't get to pick and choose when and if you follow policy, there is only professionalism and everything else AKA failure.
It's a dangerous job to be a cop on the beat. It's full of disrespect, unnecessary grand standing by citizens with an ax to grind, people who think they are lawyers and world class pricks like myself who have trouble with authority, etc.

I accept the legal outcome. I don't trust much of anything said by Ferguson PD as they are in no way credible. At this point it just seems the argument is: Wilson should be guilty of something.
I'm not seeing anything substantive though, just innuendo based on what Dorian Johnson said, which is in no way credible...
Hopefully there will be a day when police officers don't routinely abuse people or otherwise break the law and keep their jobs. It's so prevalent it's become trite. It's as if there is a law that none of us know about that allows LE to abuse people. In a perfect world, you are right. Message to citizens, **** YOU!
I'm on thin ice for being OT on at least two other incidents recently. Perhaps this will put me over the top and I will be suspended. We will see. I hope not but perhaps it's well deserved (one incident was particularly egregious, tu quote and irrelevant). This thread is about St. Michael of Ferguson.
I did say "seems". Please feel free to correct me when you return. I will apologize in advance.Exactly. That's a great characterization of my position.
Full disclosure, I'm hopping on an international flight and gone for a week. Please don't take this as a cheap shot to which I won't return. I'll try to catch up in a day or two.
Let's all be clear that Dorian Johnson is a scumbag, because his arrest record agrees.
