If Ferguson LE cared about citizens and didn't treat the poor as an ATM. If there was an honest attempt at community policing and an attempt to employ citizens as officers so that the force could reflect the community then I would agree.

Michael Brown was a human being who committed a malicious act by strong arming a store clerk and taking property that didn't belong to him. People might not think Brown deserved a presumption of innocence and the respect of Wilson but keep this in mind, Brown was treated with contempt before he was even arrested much less prosecuted and convicted. Wilson showed no attempt whatsoever (that we know) to treat Brown as a human being. IMO: To Wilson, Brown was an animal who was in the street (BFD Canfeld ISN'T a major thoroughfare). This was a chance for Wilson to exercise his authority and not to build relations with the community.

Take your blinders off; how on earth can you determine what Wilson thinks of anyone else?

He was a cop doing his job and that's all we can say. We can't say anything with respect to how he feels about individuals or groups.

Take yours off. I know Wilson treated Brown deplorably by telling him to get the **** out of the road. Nothing called for that other than contempt.

If you can point to any word or phrase etched on the memorial that is known to be factually incorrect or that misrepresents any fact surrounding Brown's death, feel free to specify.

If I'm driving behind you as you walk in front of my car and I lean out, say the same thing, that's deplorable treatment? Get the rule ten outta here with that.

I wonder if some think that Brown is not allowed to be remembered as a human being who loved and was loved. Perhaps some think that it would be impossible to imagine Brown as anything other than a criminal.

IMO: That's a very, very big part of the problem. Most of the citizens (black) are seen by LE and others (mostly white) as animals who don't deserve respect.

I can't know it. That's why I made clear that it was my opinion. The opinion is based on the DOJ report and the anger and frustration of citizens.

Let me be clear. I don't think this is a simple case of racism. I think it is a far more complex problem.

I've said many times that most of the police just want to do their job and go home safe. Sadly they are a product of their culture. LE officers are human and subject to environmental variables.

If you are a public servant on duty, then yes. If you are acting as a private citizen, then probably not.

Allegedly Brown responded "**** what you have to say"... it's funny. I'd never in a thousand encounters say that to a cop unless I was specifically looking to find trouble. But that's just me.

The plaque is a joke and anybody canonizing Mike Brown is a fool.
 
Even if Wilson said exactly what is reported, we have no idea how it was said.
I have had words damn close to that said directly too me and I walked away smiling.

Imagine the respect Wilson would have earned from Brown and Johnson had he said,
"Golly young men, could I bother you to please walk on the sidewalk. Walking in the middle of the road is dangerous and I sure would hate to see you fine fellows get hurt. Have wonderful day!"

The only source for that being Dorian Johnson who the DOJ found to be completely untrustworthy. But I'm sure the DOJ is Johnny On The Ball with its Systemic Racism Report but can't find their ass with both hands, a map and a torch when it comes to Dorian "We's not but a minute from our destination, officer" Johnson.
 
RandFan, I like you a lot but you are not acquitting yourself well here. What happened to Michael Brown wasn't any larger societal issue. It was punk kid criminals acting stupidly and one got killed.

Giving any credence at all to the "witness" "testimony" as you have here makes me embarrassed when I read it.

That said, happy Memorial Day. I hope that there will more bbq and less political arguments in our futures. .

I would happily accept the condemnation if the facts were different. Do you reject the DOJ assessment?
