George Zimmerman shot

There is irony here, but you missed where it's coming from. It's not from me (I haven't advocated vigilantism under any scenario), it's from SG.

Exactly. SG dislikes Z because she thinks he was a hot head, enacting extra-judicial punishment. So she is OK with the idea of some other hot head enacting extra-judicial punishment on Z.

I have to say, thinking of the Garland shooting thread as well, this forum has a lot of folks who aren't happy at the concept of universal rights. It's all emotion driven "waah, they're baddies who deserve everything they get" and "waah, I sympathize with these guys who got a raw deal". Sad on a 'skeptics' forum.

I doubt that it is.

But it might be possible to roll that window down and then back up again.

If Zimmerman brandished his gun with a rolled-down window, then rolled it back up, then that could complicate a self-defense claim. Rolling the window up would suggest that the threat was passing (if you're intending to shoot, why choose to do it through your own window?), and you can't legally use deadly force in self-defense after a threat has already passed.

I'm not sure how rolling up a window means the threat has passed. Apperson had already had two encounters with Zimmerman in which he claimed his safety was threatened. If on the third encounter, Zimmerman pulls up alongside him, brandishes a gun and then rolls up his window so Apperson can no longer see what he his doing but knows he has a gun, seems like a pretty clear threat to me.

Also, a lot of automobiles have a function that allows you to automatically roll up a window pretty quickly. Zimmerman could have brandished his gun with the window rolled down and then rolled up his window in a matter of seconds, possibly before Apperson even realized it as he was reaching for his gun.

Disclaimer: I don't know what happened, don't know if anything Apperson claims is true, and am not familiar with the intricacies of how Florida self-defense law would interpret this scenario.

To me, the best outcome would be for both of them to be charged and convicted of something. Probably GZ will not be, however.

It seems hard to believe GZ will be charged with anything if he denies waving his gun around. It's just his word against the other guy's, and the other guy has a pretty strong incentive to lie. Still, if I were advising GZ, I would tell him to install one or more dashcams.

You don't get it. It's not him I'm defending. It's basic standards of human decency. Wishing harm on people you don't know because they irritate your sensibilities is a bad thing. It's bad for you (even if you don't understand why), it's bad for society as a whole. That applies regardless of my opinion of Zimmerman.

Interesting.

If Geller is responsible for two dead terrorists, then she's a god-damn hero.

Another point is to follow Sun Tzu's advice: "If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him." These two terrorists got annoyed. And now they're dead. And that's a good thing.

Why isn't that side glass on Z's truck shattered into thousands of pieces? Is the tint holding the pieces together?

Maybe, but fracture mechanics vary quite a bit with the details of the forces causing the fracture. Here are some other examples of side windows with bullet holes that didn't shatter the whole window:

Yeah I've seen it happen. (We used to shoot at abandoned cars out in the woods...)

You say that like taking out the rest of Florida would be a bad thing. :p

Obligatory.

Let's see, Zimmerman is 31-years-old. What is the Vegas over/under on him making 40? Anybody know?

I have no idea and it doesn't matter to me. I've had all my disposable income riding on Keith Richards since 1987. Any day now.....

Keith Richards?!? :eye-poppi Anyone who bet on his life span has probably lost tons of money. He is a walking talking medical contradiction.

What I got a laugh out of was reading in USA Today:
Lake Mary Police Department tweeted that it was "responding to a shooting involving George Zimmerman."

They tweeted it? haha Are they allowed to do that? Did the tweet begin with, "Ain't gonna believe this but yep." Sounds like the Lake Mary PD is keepin' it real. Right on!
