Hillary Clinton is Done

It is my fervent hope that she does not get the nomination.

I don't think she can win. I believe a Hillary nomination will mean a Republican White House, which I do not look forward to.

I agree. A Hillary ticket will be a sure-fire way to get the casual voter/dedicated Faux News viewer off the couch. And the GOP is likely to park the clown car out back and let electable politicians off the leash, rather than throwing the fight as they did the last two times.

"Republicker" simply isn't going to work, Republicans just don't find it offensive like people who are accused of being part of the "Democrat Party" do.

I find it offensive, but, meh. I put up with a lot worse here.

I was going to say teabagger is certainly offensive, I didn't know they coined it themselves, before they were aware of the gay sexual definition, that's funny.

Of course, that claim is completely false. There were perhaps a handful of Tea Party protesters who had signs early on with references to tea-bagging, and they clearly were aware of the sexual allusion (which is not exclusively gay by the way). And of course, tea bags were prominently on display at Tea Party rallies, because, you know, tea bags are actually related to tea and tea parties. But it was Tea Party detractors who actually coined the term in an attempt to mock and disparage a growing political movement. Personally, I find the use of the epithet to be extremely immature, but also desperate. It makes me feel more pity than offense when I see it being used, although I do admit to being annoyed when very prominent people, including the President, use the term with impunity.

It is not the offense that bothers me but the dishonesty of it. If you call Democrats "libtards" or closet communists or whatever, your intention is obvious. Insult is a standard element of political rhetoric. To speak of the "Democrat" party and then pretend that it is not intentional is a plain lie. You can claim ignorance only once.

But I am pretty sure for most it is ignorance of the fact it is an insult. Before I started posting here I was never aware it was an insult and I was raised in a family of democrats. My father was almost the head of his state's democratic party at one time.

Twice I have been severely chastised for this once when I wasn't even aware it was a bad thing to say and the second time in error while correcting a post.

I have no problem calling the party Democratic and its members Democrats. However, the progressive members here seem to attach great importance to the term "Democrat Party", and I try to be mindful of that when posting in this forum. Thus I refer to the "Democrat Party" not out of any sincere ill-will or disrespect, but simply to let our Democrats know that I hear their cries and find them delicious.

I suppose I could ignore them, but I note that my ignoring "republickers" doesn't seem to have any measurable effect on its usage. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?

Turns out it's true what they say: sauce for the goose is the tastiest sauce for the gander.

If Democratic Party = Democrat Party
What would be the equal for GOP = ?????

I'm not taking you at your word, 16.5. Stop making unsupported claims.

LOL!

That is the spiffy thing, you don't even have to "take my word for it."

There is a whole huge thread dedicated to discussing it! Take a gander at it and let me know if you have questions!

:D For certain definitions of discussing. Like 1 poster on a soapbox, making 1/3 of the 3000 posts in the thread and the last 8 to 10 consecutively with no response (read: discussion) from any other forumite since early March.

I appreciate a good insult, but "teabagger" just falls short. The best insults have a core of truth which this one sorely lacks.

I remember the GOP well! They went on the endangered list in the '70s and went extinct in the early '90s to be largely replaced by the conservatives, libertoons and baggers over the last decade and a half.

Why is "Democrat party" so annoying? It seems like a micro - aggression at most. Seems like adults would just ignore it...

That's pretty much it exactly. A couple of pundits figured that this would be a great way to passively-aggressive needle Democrats, and some Democrats decided to play along.

The whole thing is really silly, IMO.

But I really am curious as to how Hillary is "done" and whether there's an avatar bet lurking here. :)

(I'm faaaar from a Hillary supporter, but she's weathered far worse than this.)
